have a 2000 4runner sr5 with the 3.4 and 4wd mostly stock. After slipping hard on the way home tonight I looked under to see the drivers side of trans near the engine covered in frozen trans fluid. as far as I know the cooler lines and dipstick are on other side. besides a cracked housing what else could leak like that in that area?

You say the trans is slipping and your concern is frozen fluid? Im confused. Well anyways if it was slippin that prob means ur fluid is getting real hot which means it is going to expand a lot which then means it is maybe coming out the vent on top of the trans by the bellhousing. Either way if it is slipping your trans needs a rebuild. things that can leak are shift shaft seal on the shifter linksge or maybe an oring on the front speed sensor. But that will get replaced with a rebuild which is inevitable. I just fully rebuilt my transmission! Top to bottom. Mine gave out after 190k.
