Trans cooler size

I found a Tru Cool 4490 cooler the other day. Anyone know if this is too big or if it will fit in front of the radiator? It's rated for like 22,000 btu so it should be a bit overkill but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Also, what is the best way to mount the cooler (barbs up, down, side)?

Trans Cooler

Not sure about the size of the Tru-cool. I have the B&M 70264. It fits well. But for mounting, run barbs to the side with the inlet on the bottom. Prevents any air pockets to give the highest rate of heat transfer.

For a trans cooler I say bigger the better as long as you can make it fit. I bought this one a while back its rated for 40,000 gvw I got it to fit up front real good. I have no problems with air bubbles I tested it out in the sand dunes last summer running it hard never heated up once it works great.

Wow... That's massive. I'll have to try to fit the one I have in somehow. I'd rather do that then sell it and buy a smaller one if I can.

Bigger is better !!!!
I'll be installing a second cooler shortly as the one I have now (GVW 24000, BTU 21000) is not enough when climbing a steep grade in 4h.

Depending on your climate, and how much you tow, bigger isn't necessarily better.

I agree. I am in Ottawa and it is bitter cold in the winter. I have a Tru-Cool with GVW rating of 30,000 (it might be 28,000, I would have to check) and it keeps my transmission too cold on some mornings. This can be sorted with a cold weather bypass though.

Or a piece of cardboard

Saw this thread, so figured it would be a good place ask. I am getting the B&M 70264 SuperCooler next week and this is going to be my first thing since getting my 4runner last week.Pretty sure it still has the factory rad. From what I have read it does not seem to hard to replace but just wanted to know what else to be expecting when replace it. Should there be other parts that I need to put it in or does everything come with it when buying it. I know there is always something extra when doing most repairs or add-ons. Thanks guys!
