Trans Dipstick help

Have a 2000 limited 4wd with the a340f. Apparently sometime in the past someone forced the trans dipstick in and got it twisted. Now it does not want to come in or go out smoothly - can't trust it.

Put my trans cooler on the other day and need to confirm the trans level. Went to one dealership and got a part # and price, then checked some others in the area.

Problem - the dealerships can't seem to agree on what the correct part number is.

half say it is the part # that ends in 35350, the other half says its the one that ends in 34060.

Near as I can tell, one is for the federal emissions and one is Cali.

Anyone got the right answer? Thanks.

From what I've heard and experienced all the trans dipsticks are a pain to get in and out. They do have some twists to them too. It's just how they are. Sure yours isn't normal??

They are all twisted and they are all a PITA. Just something you will have to deal with...

Yep, mine is a PITA as well. It helps to twist and push it in. I hold the metal just above the opening and push it down a inch at a time. Your sounds normal, not sure a new one would be any better.

Can you look at the new dealer part to see if it looks likes yours?

+4 on this. The dipstick is a PITA. Getting a new one won't help, they're all like that.

I don't check my tranny nearly as often because it is so difficult to get the damn thing back in. I was hoping there was a "trick" to it but there isn't.

Reason #1,250 why my next 4x4 will have a manual tranny.

Mine will go in easy one way only. The bottom of the stick has a curved lip on it. If I stand right by the pass. side fender and face that curved lip towards the engine, it will slide in. Any other way is a fight.

Yup - that little curve at the bottom of the stick coincides with the curve in the lower half of the tube. I still find it easier to "guide" the stick with my left hand while pushing it with my right hand. Was that dirty?

Yep, my trans dip was a trial until I figured out which way worked best...even then it wasn't just a push in.

Thank god for this info. I thought mine was bent too. Even bought a new dipstick while I was at the dealership to hopefully correct the problem but I see now it won't help.
