Trans Temp Guage

any one running a Trans Temp gauge other the the factory one if you have one from the factory. I did the anti Strawberry milkshake mod and am running two coolers due to the fact that it get hot as hell here in the summer time talking 120 in phx. If you are where is the gauge installed at im wondering where to locate mine in the cab

The gauge and mounting panel both came from Jegs Automotive.

I chose the Z-series gauge so as to match the factory gauge faces: Black trim/face, white lettering, and orange needle.

The gauge panel was the lowest profile panel I could find, making it easier to install in a tight space.

Turbo did you dash have just the idot light or the gauge aswell. If it only had the idiot light did you just unplug it and put you autometer gauge probe where the sensor use to be i just dont want to throw a code if i unplug it or it light up on the dash

It could be the horsepower x-gauge. I have it on mine and it's quite interesting to see how much horsepower that the engine is putting out at any given time. I think that they have the codes for this gauge on their website.

It's the gross horsepower reading at a given moment in time. It’s not the amount of HP I’m putting to the real wheels. In short, the HP reading is calculated based on a combination of fuel consumption (by taking the BTUs used/burned) and a few engine readings the scanguage picks up (which ones, I'm not sure). The HP figure is not a literal HP reading, but I still use it from time to time.

No, I just used 3M adhesive velcro strips. Makings removing it and reinstalling it very quick.

I only had the idiot light before, and I left the switch for the light hooked up.

Just prior to adding the temp gauge I installed a spin-on remote trans filter, which has a port for a temp sender. That made it easy to add the gauge without disturbing the factory idiot light at all.

(I'm actually not even sure where the idiot light switch is located, but it may be possible to add a tee at that location so you could keep the dash light and still add the gauge sender.)

If you look close enough in my photo, you can see the other end of the cable plugged into the OBDII port.

Turbo i know there the sensor is. It is located next to the factory hard lines that go to the transmission cooler. I was thinking about a tee but it may be hard to get on in there so i may put a 90 in there and the tee it from there

I believe the 96-98 only had a switch for the dash light, so you can't read actual temps. Later trucks have a real temp sensor...
