Transfer Case education

Yes, you have the R150 tranny. Along with everything that kidv mentioned, I think you'll need a new cross member too that will support the dual cases or crawl box.

I'm absolutely sure on the transfer case due to the 7 (gear) bolt pattern as opposed to the 5 (chain).

The only possibilities behind my engine are the A340H or the R150F. Since the A340H is auto and only 4 gears, That leaves the R150F as the only manual possibility behind the 3VZE.

What am I missing here?

There is my case with the 7 bolt pattern. According to Martin Crawler, Trail gear and the chart above, that is a gear driven case with the 3.83 gear.

I think there's something weird in Marlin's info, because based on his stuff I thought I had a gear drive case behind the automatic on my '86, too. But according to the Transfer Case chart you linked, the only transfer case to come behind the r150 is the vf1a chain drive case. And I think you're counting the wrong bolts, too - here's my case - look at the bolt pattern, the location of the fill and drain bolts, it's completely different than yours.

5 of my 7 rear cover bolts are visible there. I think 2 of the 5 rear cover bolts are visible in your pic.

Sorry. :(

Here's the diagram from the Trail-Gear site's section for T-cases:
