Transfer case leak

Lets just start by saying I have no idea what I am doing. Please be patient with my ignorance.

I bought this 03 last july. It had a slow leak(about a drip a week) from the transfer case and has increased as of late.

I am hoping it is an easy fix. I am leaning towards just replacing the oil periodically rather than taking it to a shop and seeing it the leak can be fixed.

Has anyone encountered this issue? If so, how big of a job was it to fix?

It is a 4wd V8 version.

I would get under there and verify where the leak is coming from. If it is coming from the actuator (an uncommon, but likely situation) then the case will need to be partially torn down to replace the seal.

If its something like a loose drain plug or something that's a bit easier to fix.

Check your input and output shaft seals too. I had a similar problem with my Tacoma. It turned out to be my front output shaft seal. It wasn't a difficult fix.
