I have been reading all the posts and was hoping someone could answer this for me. I have a 97 2wd and was considering converting to 4wd. In looking for a T-Case and Transmission I noticed that the transmissions looked the same with the exception of the "tail housing" on the 2wd trans. When I say "tail housing" I mean the section of housing that bolts onto the back of the transmission that the rear drive shaft slides into on the 2wd. It almost looks like the tail housing could be unbolted and a T-Case could be bolted up to the 2wd transmission. The question is has anyone tried this and if so what were the issues? Bolt pattern wrong? Output shaft too short or long? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

It could work but you need a 4wd output shaft. Transmission will have to be broke down.
Easier to get a 4wd tranny and transfercase.

easier to buy a whole new truck.
You could always buy 4WD with body damage / paint damage but a good engine & drivetrain and just swap your current whole body over.
could be a lot easier than a 2WD to 4WD conversion.

You could start with this but it's a lot of money and time. Singtoe has the right idea.

I would sell the 2wd and buy a 4wd, but to each his/her own.
