Transmission Cooler?

So... question for folks. Has anyone ever overheated a transmission towing? The only time I'm aware of this ever happening was one person in sand. Just curious. I know other models have a cooler separate. The 3rd gens had the "pink milkshake" issue. So I'm not anti-cooler. But I'm not sure it's as much of an issue as its made out to be.

If it has a J2807 tow rating - it should practically never have an issue with heat and a 5000lb trailer. That's kinda the whole point of the testing. SAE J2807 Tow Tests - The Standard

^ this. If I saw a lot of "transmission failure due to overheating when towing" threads, I might think differently.

Seems like an excess of irrational anxiety is the source of lot of threads about "fixing" things that aren't broke (oil change intervals being a prime example).

Everybody believes the Toyota Engineers when it comes to everything else, but I'm suppose to believe I need a cooler if towing close to the max recommended weight? I can't seem to find that in the manual...

Didn't we have this same scenario yesterday, dude asks a question about a specific custom lift scenario - and the dildos arrived on queue to chastise once again.

This have been going on for years - interestingly- I see some of those guys never came back like Dave1978, who asked a simple question about lifts, etc.

So *******s- do you not realize new people come here every day- and once you were the new guy looking for info and asked questions, so you could learn about your rig.

So we can scatter info into a thousand different threads? The problem is that the knowledgeable people tire after about attempt 3 to write something worth reading. So then you have a bunch of crap, and it dilutes the real stuff so it becomes difficult to find anything of value.

For example: I still routinely see people comment that a lift will help with tire rub... The answer is of course typical 3" lifts make no difference, but I and others have given up on teaching geometry on this forum.

To the OP, the search feature through this forum is historically bad. Surprised you don't know that coming from the 4th gen side. Next time do a search through google and it will most likely bring up what you are seeking.

OK,, lets see if we can steer this thread back on track.

I put a 24k BTU Coolmax unit in my and have been very happy with it. It's a big sucker and a really well made unit. I have hauled a trailer all over the western US with no issues.

I had to relocate it behind the center brace when I installed my SSO hybrid bumper and SmittyBuilt winch but it all fit together nicely.

More people are going to come and ask questions without searching.

Admin does not give mods enough power to enact any significant changes (like banning thread creation until you have x amount of posts).

This site is running off early 2000's tech, with no real way to properly search for threads.

Do we honestly expect people in 2018 (year of the instant answers) to understand forum crazy outdated forum edicate right from the get go?

the transmission runs a line into your radiator to warm/cool up the fluid. You could bypass this and mount an external cooler

OP another place to look for information would be on the 3rd gens. I know they had an issue getting coolant in the transfluid over time. Transcooler was a necessary mod for high mile 3rd gens if I recall properly.

Would it not make more sense to pop in the thread and provide a link to another thread where this was answered? Since the new thread turns up in a search now, the relevant link would take the searcher to the information regardless of which thread it originated in. It would make using the search function more relevant.

Or we can keep having this conversation about searching/not searching and being dickbags to each other in every new thread.

That's the rub. The information is equally available to everyone. It's tiring to repeat the same thing to lazy people asking someone to do something they aren't willing to do themselves. Most of the information is readily available in the stickies at the top of the page.

If it's something obscure, or you don't know what to call it, or anything like that - yeah, totally happy to help.

I think it would make sense to have a newbie section and a technical section to separate the discussion of whether bronze wheels go best with plaid RTT bedding from the fabrication and experimentation information.
