Transmission Differences of a Gen 4

I was looking at Amazon, think it was, and to apply a filter for my Sport, it was asked whether it had the A 750 E or A 750 F transmission. Can someone briefly describe the difference between these? Also, don't know why it would ask when ordering an air filter.

Both the A750F and the A750E are mechanically and functionally exactly the same, the only difference is the tail/output shaft and tail/output shaft housing, which is different on the A750F so the transfer case can attach.

There is no reason the tranmission would make a difference on what air filter your engine uses.

I just noticed that you have a 2004 V6, in this case you don't have either of the transmissions mentioned in this topic, both are 5 speeds, the 2004 V6 still used the 4 speed, the 2004 V8 had the 5 speed, in 2005 and onwards both the V6 and the V8 got the 5 speed transmisson.

You will have the A340F transmission.


There's not a big difference in mileage, but the performance is noticeably better. The 5 speed is smoother, more refined and works better with the 4.0L engine. 1st gear is much higher so that makes slow speed offroad work easier too.

AFAIK the last gear should be the same ratio so gas milage is the same on the highway. Of course the more gears you have the better in general (for acceleration purposes for example) but the difference between 4 and 5 speed shouldn't be substantial. May be the 5 gears will hunt for gears less in the city.

Both the 4 speed and 5 speed are really good transmissions and are more or less "bulletproof" for the most part, Toyota is known for having very reliable transmissions.

The 5 speed was their answer to keeping up with what most other brands are/were doing....higher number of gears for automatic transmissions, the 5 speed has been used for quite a while now, so I expect or truely hope when they finally come out with the 6th gen T4Rs they have a 6 speed or more transmission.

I have read some reports that the 5 speed is actually capable of being a 6 speed by simply changing the valve body and Toyota design it that way from the start, how true that is I don't know.
