Transmission Dipstick?

I did a search but cant seem to find anything, so here goes. I have a 1990 4runner 3.0 liter V6 manual. I bought it last week and tonight I was changing the oil and decided to check the transmission fluid. But I couldn't find the dipstick. Is there one? Or is there a bolt on the underside of the tranny to check the transmission? A transmission bolt? And if so how do I check and change the transmission oil if there is only a bolt? Thanks.

the manual trans doesnt have a dipstick like an automatic does in order to check the level you have to locate the the trans under the 4runner take the fill nut out of the trans its about half way up the trans and put you finger in and you should be able to feel where the level is , it should be real close to the top , if not fill with gear oil til it runs out .

to change gear oil first make sure the bolt that you will fill the trans comes out on the trans and than you take the bolt out on bottom and then let it all drain out than replace bottom bolt and fill trans till it runs out of fill hole

That's pretty much standard operating procedure on all vehicles--manual transmissions don't have dipsticks, just plugs. They also use either motor oil or gear oil, where auto's use special Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). As mentioned, you top off a manual trans. by adding oil through the fill plug opening, usually with a tube and hand pump, until the oil starts to run back out of the hole--the bottom of the filler hole is designed to be the correct height of the oil when at rest.

Thanks for the help guys. Oh and my 2005 wrx manual has a transmission dipstick, hence the question.
