Hey guys I just bought an 99 runner with 128k one owner in excellent shape. I dnt know if the previous owner ever flush the transmission as the carfax does show it. I bought it at a dealership. It runs great and I was thinking about flushing the transmission but I heard some horror stories. Would you recommend me to do it or not?? Thanks also I was thinking about changing the oil to synthetic.

I did it myself before I added a trans cooler. Just unhooked the trans out hose and started the truck for about 5 secs. The trans pump will pump out old fluid. Shut off truck, add new fluid (approx same amount that came out). Repeated until I could see bright red new fluid coming out of the hose. Just an option.

When you do this, you must be pouring in the same time you are removing. It's a great process but I know someone who let the pump starve and had tranny problems shortly after.

Not true.
Empty 2qts of old ATF into a bucket. Then shut off the engine. Then replenish (fill) with 2quarts of new ATF. Keep doing this until the fluid being drained is red. This method has worked for me for 18 years. Not one tranny problem to speak of ..... yet.
Just did this a couple days ago. Works great.

How's this not true when you say at the end of your post "not yet".. Is it good to run any fluid pump at partial capacity? Tell my neighbor that this isn't true and he will show you his transmission where his pump seals deteriorated to what Toyota called (lack of lubrication) sure as hell don't want to even think of not running my truck with low fluid. Is it good to run your engine oil low at any given time?? Call me dumb, stupid, whatever you want. You maintain your vehicle your way and I'll do mine my way.
