Transmission for 01

I just bought a 2001 4Runner with a messed up transmission. I am saving up to get a brand new tranny for her but would like to drive her around before I get the new tranny. I am trying to find a used tranny but from what everywhere is telling me I can only use a tranny from an 01-02 4runner. My question is can I use a tranny from other year models or is the 01 and 02 the only years I can use. You help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

yeah gotta stick w/ 01-02

these are the electronic years, 96-00 were more mechanical and will not work. Still there s/b plenty around, toyo sold about 90k 01's and 77k 02's, though most are still on the road, woohoo! :banana:
