I have a 1989 toyota 4runner 4x4 automatic transmission 3.0 v6, i got the transmission out and the one i bought doesnt fit they both have "3080" stamped on the top. apparently the one i bought was for a toyota truck v6 3.0 not a sr5 4runner.... figured 3.0 v6 transmission 4runnner or truck i was good to go but apparently not... anyways i have the transmission that came out of the truck was so burnt up the torque converter wont come off the transmission shaft.. the one i bought was wrong... and now im having the most impossible time trying to find one... EBAY IS A NO GO(they have 0) usedcarparts.com has a couple at a junkyard but thats a crap shoot and the one i have to rebuild is going ot be too expessive now...HELP IDEAS anything thanks!!!

My girlfriend bought a used transmission out of New York state for her MX6 with warranty and I assume free shipping. Supposedly checked and mileage verified. She got the technical college to install it and she is good to go. Total cost less than 500 shipped to her door in Georgia. Just a thought. I can try and research the scrapyard if you like from her emails.

Hmmm I guess I could try and break it down for him a little better...
The flexplate or flywheel is found in automatic or manual transmissions, respectively, and essentially serve as the link that marries the transmission to the engine. At first, these two parts look pretty similar. The key difference is that the flexplate will be thinner and made of a lighter material. A flywheel typically looks heavy and is made out of steel. The flexplate needs to be thinner because at high RPMs, the torque converter in an automatic transmission will expand.
If you have a flywheel... Then the flywheel adapts to the clutch... manual transmission
automatic transmissions use a FLEX PLATE coupled to a torque convertor ....not a flywheel...

If he pulled a auto out he probably has a flex plate installed.
Make sure you have the torque converter installed all the way in. Usually have to turn it a few times while pushing in. It should sit inside the bell housing not flush.
That will cause tranny not to fit. Also make sure the round dowels are not still stuck in the block. If one or both are in and you have them installed in the tranny it will not install.

95 4 runner
I recently bought a 95 4runner and am now having transmission problems. It is an automatic. It will shift into 4th and 5th but after a while is downshifts back to 3rd and won't go out. Is there anyone who knows how to fix this? I have replaced fluids and cleaned sensor and replaced the filter but it is still doing it. Help!

The auto tranny is a 4 speed. Might be a shift solenoid.

It might be going back into close loop. I had a similar issue and found that the t stat was just a tad stuck open.
The trans won't go into overdrive if engine temp isn't at operating temp.

Pictures of the two trans would help. All 3.0 auto are the same but the newer ones i think have different sensors on them.
