I suppose another reason to go with a V6 if a person was interested in buying a 4th gen.

If you read the associated threads on this issue, it is not limited to the V8s. I have an '03 V6, and it also does it when breaking hard to a stop. As those in the threads have mentioned, lubricating the slip joint in the rear drive shaft will usually eliminate the 'clunk' for a while.
My 2000 3rd Gen 4 Runner is doing this. I just had a new drive shaft installed for another issue. It clunks after I have stopped. It is so strange. It is only doing it after I have been up to speed a bit on the highway. Then when I come to a stop it clunks. It also has an issue where it acts like it is never going to get up to speed. So slow, I can almost floor board it and it barely moves. Does anyone know if these two issues are related? I have serviced my rear differential, had my transmission flushed (which shifts fine and the dealer verified this). I am about done with Toyota! And will be selling a Supra too if this kind of stuff is normal. So flipping sick of this!!!! I just had the ujoints lubed, and it did it again, and the slow speed thing. Once it is rolling it seems fine. This seems like really crappy engineering to me. Any help is appreciated.
No the two issues are not related.
The driveline clunk is common to all variants of this vehicle. (V6, V8, and lexus models) the fix is simple, grease your drive shaft. there are six zerks on the drive shaft and they all need fresh grease every 7500 miles. do a search on this forum id you need more info, of which there is more than plenty.

I have a new 2016 4runner and i have the same thing, stopped at red light, get a lurch like someone tapped my rear bumper. it makes me look back to make sure nobody hit me. I've searched around the forum and noticed a lot of posts of this but seems to apply to 2010-2012 etc tacos and some 4runners, I have not been able to find anyone posting similar for their newer 4runners.
