transmission or driveshaft?

i bought my 08 4runner with 70k and a few months in i noticed a downshift clunk if i stopped abruptly. sometimes it was a soft pop other times it felt like i got hit from behind. check engine light came on and the codes said i had a transmission problem so i had it replaced thinking it would fix the problem. recently ive noticed it again. not as severe but noticeable. happens when im stopped or let off the break and start rolling again. almost like a late downshift. any thoughts?

I would lube the driveshaft and see if it stops. Wont hurt anything to do it, and it just might solve your problem. For what its worth, sounds like it is the driveshaft to me.

I agree with marcus6867. If it is a mild clunk after coming to a stop and letting off on the brake it may very well be that the driveshaft needs to be lubed. It is supposed to be done very 15k miles.

Bazillion posts on clunk (don't read them all) , there was a tsb on lexus models & v8 I think if your still under warranty fix it if not get a grease gun or you can buy the upgraded shaft . I do mine about every 5k .
