Transmission question

The past 2 days my truck has done this twice:
Warmed up, just after taking my foot off the accelerator I feel a jerk while the truck is up shifting. The jerk is definitely noticeable, like someone hit me from behind. Never has done it before during the 100k I've owned it. Just replaced the fluid and the strainer, it's up to the correct level, and I just lubed the driveline zerks.

Any ideas?

Yeah. How many pumps of grease did you put in the slider? BTW - its 3 pumps Max on that baby. It may have too much and is locking up. If you think you put more than 3, open up the zerk to release the excess. Luck. :cowboy:
 
TC possibly? A friend who used to have a 4runner would notice it every now and then after using the cruise control and hitting the brake to slow down. A new converter and OEM real main seal was $850 out the door back in 2011 I believe.

TC = transfer case?

What would it have to do with the torque converter?

If I was pulling the trans, I would just throw a low mileage one in, since I can get them for cheap.

Ok, I'll try releasing the pressure. I put probably 5 in.
 
Continuing,

At about 35 MPH the transmission wants to stay in 2nd when I let off the gas, then jerk into 3rd when I step on the gas a little. Is this a sign of impending failure?
 
Entirely speculation and personal experience, but every transmission I've had that failed would refuse to shift gears or sort of "drift" lazily before quitting. Jerking sounds like something else, maybe the torque converter (once again speculation).
 
Yea, it was his torque converter that was failing. Once in a while after being at speeds of over 50mph and he would let off the gas to allow the tranny to downshift out of overdrive it would jerk.

But no problems shifting through the gears. If there is any lazy shifting going on it may be time for another tranny. Fluid is fine I take it.

Shot in the dark, have you inspected the rear drums? When my axle was leaking and gear oil soaked the brake shoes it it felt like something similar. I thought it was tranny issues cause it would only do it in drive, not reverse. And felt like it when coming to a stop what I thought was during down shifting. Turns out the shoes would lock up and felt like a thud. It wasn't leaking enough to leak through the drums, just enough to soak the shoes.

Fluid is perfect, when hot, right in the middle of full and add.

Just resealed my tranny pan and filled with Valvoline DEX/MERC Max Life.

Shifts fine, no evidence of slipping. Just the jerk shifting from 2nd to 3rd with no accelerator pedal applied.

Interesting, I've never done my shoes or rear axle seals in 200K. I'll take a look at them.

On cold mornings mine does this too, I first noticed it last winter on my way to school in the mornings. It'd only happen the first time shifting into 3rd, and afterwards it'd be fine. I did some searching a while ago, and found some other members reporting the same thing. They determined it wasn't something to be worried about, if I remember right. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Mine only jerks when its all warmed up. It doesn't do it when the engine/tranny is cold.
 
Update: now I've driven over 200 mi since the jerking started, it hasn't done it again.

I'm wondering if it is associated with resetting my computer after working on my wiring for my subs and amp?
