Just passed 178k and the other day pulling onto the highway it slipped fairly bad going from first to second. Didn't happen the rest of the day, today it slipped a little from 2nd to third and downshifted a little rough from 4th to 3rd. No documentation that the trans fluid was ever changed or flushed and am scared to touch it due to that and high mileage. Any help?

I got 155,000 on my 2005 and tranny never slipped. Dealer did a 6-quart D/F and changed the filter at 105,000 miles.
I'd try a 6-quart D/F before I order a remanufactured one or took it into a top transmission repair shop.

506,000 miles on my A750F transmission. Did a fluid swap last year around 490,000 mi and it has very mild wear. Still kicking.
If you tow or get the fluid hot then changing out at the correct interval is required. There is a chart somewhere showing how long the fluid can last at different temperatures.

Check the fluid level, or have a reputable shop do it if you're scared to touch it.
If it's low, top it off with specified fluid (you didn't state your model year) and check for leaks. Especially the front cooler pipes that run under the radiator as DrCoffee said.
If the fluid level is right, I'd either exchange the fluid or have a reputable shop do it. No power flush, just a fluid exchange. Did mine at 164K miles on factory fluid and it's still running right at 251K miles. And yes I'll be exchanging fluid again soon.

On the driver's side of the transmission, just under the area of the gas pedal, you'll see a white electrical connector. Check that for corrosion and spray it with a little something called De-Oxit.
A few years ago I had an issue with corrosion on that plug and it caused me some harsh shifting.

This is very interesting...last week I took it to a local Toyota dealer just to have an inspection done...they said I had a radiator leak but levels were fine...I'll have to see if there's a wet spot where I park and check those lines....hmmmmmmm

If you remove the front skid plate, you will have full access to the lines. Check the radiator too. Any sign of pink crusty stuff replace the radiator. They are cheap. $90-$100.
I ordered one already just for precautionary reasons buuuuutttt went with a CSF high performance and all new hoses and clamps. For future plans...to support other, things....:keyboard:

Not to complicate things as there is enough work already, but while your in there your inches away from the water pump, thermostat and at least the idler pulley's.
Don't forget also, one of the idlers is reverse threaded, I believe the tensioner.
