Transmission swap

Hello guys, I am new to the toyota truck scene. I have two t4r's. One is an 86 and the other is an 88. Both are manual 4x4. The 86 is 22re. The 88 is sr5 3vz. Can I put the 86 tranny in the 88? They both almost look identical to me. Thanks for anyone who can give any advice or sources of information.

I think the bellhousings are different but I could be wrong. I have never compared the two in person. The 85 one will have a gear driven transfer case vs the chain driven on the 88.

The one off the 86 is a W series transmission. The one behind the 3vz is an R-series transmission. It's not worth all the hassle to get the W series behind the 3vz, you can find cheap R-150's all the time.

The r150f, I finally found some info on, is making a grinding noise while in gear. I figure it is somewhere on the output shaft as it will make the noise with the speed of the vehicle. I would like to rebuild it but I need my 88 on the road as it is my only vehicle available to drive back and forth to work every day. Is it possible for me to swap out the transmissions for a couple of weeks while I spend my spare time rebuilding the r150f? Would it cause any problems I am not aware of? I have searched for used transmissions but I cannot find any cheap ones. I cannot afford 1200 for a transmission at the moment.
