Anyone had a torque convertor changed ?
4wd sr5 v6 2005.
recently i had the rumble at 25-28ish, then 35-41 ish (while its locked up in overdrive)
if i put it into semi auto select 2,3,4 it shifts just fine and smooth, just when it locks up in OD it rumbled at these MPHs.
It happened 2 years ago also, i had the tranny fluid circulated 6 quarts toyota WS fluid during a transmission service including fliter. it didnt solve the rumbling, but he told me there were no fines, and it looked good (local tran shop).
i then put in two tubes of shudder fix and it cured the rumble for almost 2 year until it just got really cold recently and started to rumble again.
seems to me like the lock up of the Torque convertor is not liking something, maybe wear, maybe bad design. I did read up alot about it before 2yrs back which is what made me take the actions i did.
now.. i put another single tube of shudder fix in, and it stopped rumbling at 25-28, now its just rumbling at 35-40.
I am thinking about having the torque convertor changed ,had two quotes one at $2200 from that same local shop not including the TC!
and Toyota $3200 inc the TC.
I have some other considerations, tranny & engine although 'ok' has 224K ,im shooting for 500k.
what would you do? tranny and torque convertor together at this mileage?
money is valuable to me, i also love the truck.
