Transmission???

1990 T4r 4x4 auto, V6: Have not experienced this particular problem before? Placed the selector gear in reverse and backed up approximately 15 ft then placed the selector in drive and regardless of which position I placed the selector it was as if the transmission was in neutral? Left the truck running in neutral while I used a come-along to move the vehicle some 20 ft, then went to place selector in park and then the transmission worked fine. Not brave enough to take it on the road, intend checking again tomorrow?

Any member's have a clue what the issue may be? Comments/Suggestions appreciated!

Sounds like could be loose shift linkage, if the trans operates/shifts fine.

I had similar situation with my auto and tightened the linkage and havent had an issue since.

I appreciate the information, I did replace the grommets in the shifting linkage quite some time ago and check it out.

Seems to be driving fine, braved it and drove to town and back. Checked linkage under the truck and appears okay. Major issue may be tranny leak, it is under the truck, on the passenger side and in the area beneath the power steering reservoir, not sure if tranny fluid, or PS? I find it difficult getting an accurate reading on the transmission dip stick, appears low so added some?

Imagine faced with same dilemma many classic T4r owner's are faced with, $ with very high mileage. Intend monitoring tranny fluid level, don't have a clue when it comes to working on auto trans; if appears the leaking likely check with shop and get an estimate on cost of repair, perhaps front trans seal. Anyhow, worry about the at a later date.
