A friend has a 2004 4runner V6. It has 236k and he just redid the whole top end. I know he takes meticulous care of it and the thing still looks new. I am not concerned about much other than the transmission. He mentioned he would sell it to me for seven thousand. Coming to you guys to find out what you think? Thanks for your time!

What, are you asking how strong the transmission are in these trucks? They are strong, from what I have seen.

Hopefully I answered your question.

Sorry...

I should have been more clear. I am asking if I should be worried about the trans going out soon and if the price is reasonable? Thanks again for your time!

I wouldn't worry about it. Since he is your friend, I'm sure he will let you test drive it without him being in it. Take it on the highway and do a WOT (wide open throttle, in other words pedal to the medal) and see if you notice anything unusual. Then while doing around 55-60, do another WOT and see if it down shifts correctly.

The around town, see if you notice it doing anything out of the norm. If not I would say its still good. With how you describe him taking care of it, I wouldnt think twice after I did my tests.

In very good condition with the mileage, they are going for 8,000. So
The price is right so I would say go for it.

What are the options? I would need to know for a near exact price, like if it is 4WD, Navi, etc.

Keep in mind this is around Atlanta, so the price could be a little different around our area but it's mostly the same in most areas.

It's a 2wd sr5. Has leather factory spoiler, front little brush guard thing. Steering wheel control. No sunroof. All I can think of. Thanks again

The 04 v6 has the 4speed tranny like mine (an 03 v6 4wd). I would just have the fluid changed and see if you can find any records of when it was changed in the past etc.

Ok, sorry. Last time I entered in the mileage I didnt enter it right. My bad.

With the leather, grille guard, that it's a 2WD and correct mileage, they go for 7,404. So he isnt trying to cheat you. I'd say go for it.

$7,000 seems like an awful lot of money for a vehicle with 236,000 miles on it.

normally it is, but in this case it is a Toyota 4Runner with 236,000 miles so its probably a fair price. I've seen 4Runners with over 200,000 miles listed at $11,000. But like any vehicle, if it was maintained well, you would be able to tell just by looking at it, driving it, and listening to it.

I got my 03 sr5 4wd for 10k. With 115k miles on it. So maybe a couple grand more can get you a much younger truck. But 7k is a pretty good deal, if it has that many miles than they are almost all highway which means it's just been cruising around. I wouldn't worry about it. Just with a vehicle that old have some money stashed away for repairs as they will happen.
