Transponder Bypass -- An Actual Key?

Im about 80% the way through installing my remote starter and i got to the point where the thing is cranking, but its not turning over. From what I am reading, i need a transponder bypass. Ok, got one of those now. Its actually telling me to put a spare key IN the bypass module, and then wrapping this antenna/ring around the ignition to bypass. So two questions:

1) is that my problem, the car doesnt sense the key so it wont start?
2) Is that right on the module, does it need an actual key? Do i have any other options? I would think there is just some wire i could put some resistance on to simulate the key. Am i wrong?

Don't think it's that easy. There's a 'code simulator' thingy you can get instead of the bypass module requiring a key. I have never used one though and only know of it's existence (for some cars).

The transponder keys have a unique code inside of them. The chip in the key doesn't just close a circuit - there is information to be found there. So yes, you would need a transponder key with a code that has been registered with your car's computer.

When I did my old Titan I had to stick the key in the module. I ground the key all to hell in case the jerk stealing the radio found it...

I took my valet key and "had at it". Fortunately I never had to test my idea.


I was careful grinding though as I am unsure about heat and the electronics of the keys' transponder. I'd grind a little, dip it in water and grind a little more. I didn't want to melt the important parts.

You could have just got a proper security bypass module for your truck. see Fortin Electronic Systems. these bypasses require 2 keys to program but you don't have to give one up. The bypass learns the code from the key. It then simulates the key signal evertime you remote start the truck.

I had an Autopage C3 installed about a month ago. The tech used a transponder, which I was a bigger fan of. I didn't like the idea of a key in the truck. As I understand it, transponder can be tricky, but are the prefered method. I have to say that I am pleased with it, and the range is better than expected.

It will crank, but the engine will not start or run without the correct transponder key.

Another alternative to destroying a working key is get a blank key and have the transponder code programmed to the key.

Those systems are junk. I tried several until I found an electronic module. No need to lose a key. I would look into that. I think I got mine from bypasskit.com

So, with this key hooked to an antenna wrapped around your ignition switch, does that always defeat the immobilizer? Or does the system disconnect the antenna when it's not remote starting?

bypass only works when triggered by the remote start system
