Travis' 06 SR5 4WD build thread!

17 to 16
[MENTION=84676]Tayzorz[/MENTION] I have an 06 SR5 4WD and I'm considering going from the 17 inch rim to a 16. I found that one guy on t4r with an 06 SR5 4WD had an issue going from 17 to 16 because of the "larger 4WD brakes on an SR5". I know the SE and Limited models have larger brakes, but I didn't think the SR5 models do. Did you run into any issues??
Also, after having these for a couple of months, do you like the 16s compared to 17s?

You should be fine going from 17 to a 16, i had no issues. SR5 brakes will be fine.
And i love these 16s! they look a whole lot beefier than the 17s and they ride awesome. going from mud terrains on 17s to all terrains on 16s its a world of difference. plus the extra sidewall really helps on the rocks and mud.

thanks dude!!! yes its a 4.0. you shouldnt worry about the v6 with all the added stuff. this engine is a tank and takes everything like a champ. Once you get some 33s and some added stuff it wont be as nimble as it is stock but it does fine on the highway.
Installed some Christmas presents. 6k HIDs in some Halo lights and a sport hood. I'll get some better pics when it's sunny out.
Where did you find those Halos? I would love to put them on my '06 instead of blacking them out.

Spec D Tuning makes them. they only make 03-05 headlights so you will have to do a little modification to your grille to make them fit.

they are alright, the halos arent visable during the day and the HID kit that it came with is not that good. but no issues with leds going out or condensation so far. look way better than stock headlights.

I'm not sure because i've never compared the two side by side but iirc the toytec is about 3" and so is this one. if theres a height difference its most likely not bigger than half an inch

[MENTION=84676]Tayzorz[/MENTION] how do you like your duratracs? I'm looking at 285/70 tires and the duratrac is in the top two. My other is the cooper st maxx but I'm kind of hesitant to put a 60lb tire on. Also I see you do all kind of off roading so that's why I'm bothering you. I figured if there were positives or negatives then you would know. And for anyone selse, I know that any 33" tire will be heavy, I just don't want the heaviest.

Those are my top two tire choices as well! I'd be curious to hear Travis' opinion. I think that the DuraTrac is 55-lbs and the ST Maxx is 61-lbs. I think that both are great tires... the ST Maxx may have the advantage in overall toughness, but the DuraTrac wins on snow and ice, which for me is a big deal. I've heard of the DuraTrac sidewall issues and the Goodyear "out-of-round" issues, but everyone that I know that has put DuraTracs on a vehicle has absolutely loved them. I'd consider the ST Maxx with some additional siping... that might help in icy conditions, but I don't know how having a tire shop sipe your tires affects the tread wear of the tire.

I've also read that apparently the st maxx's run big? I don't see how that's possible but I wouldn't want to have to deal with more rubbing. I need to look into price comparisons. I've heard the duratracs have a nice grip but that causes them to wear out faster but I haven't heard to many complaints on uneven wear etc. It's gonna be a hard choice

I've got no experience with the ST Maxxs but a few of my friends run them and love them. But I know a lot more people who run duratracs and love them as well.
The duratracs are an awesome tire and are very nice on the road, very soft and quiet for how aggressive they are. And of course they are great offroad as well.

Nope not really. I've only put about 4k on them so I can't really tell how they wear but everyone says they are nice.

Sounds good to me! And sorry to get off topic but what kind of uniball uca's do you have. I'm in the market for some to get a better alignment
I am going to insert my 2 cents. I purchased the desert products/DSM UCA's fir 2 reasons. 1 they are boxed construction and burley and 2 they run the 1" Uni-ball which is easier to find than 1.25" uni-ball of some UCA's. You just never know when you will need a replacement.
