TRD Big Brake Kit on TRD Pro 4Runner...

So I have the TRD BBK from my 2005 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner and wondering if it will fit the 4Runner Pro?

I would probably need new 6 lug rotors since the X-Runner was a 5 lug, new brake lines, and mounting bracket???


Is it worth it to put on a TRD Pro? It made a big stopping difference on my X-Runner...

By the way, just picked up a TRD PRO...was looking high and low all over the U.S. It was a pain trying to find one...

Isn't the calipers all the same? Its stoptech ST-40...seems to me its st-40 for most vehicles but the mounting bracket is different for every vehicle?

I searched stoptech website and they only have a few calipers....

Please educate me..

Non-dissertation

You will have to excuse me if I don't write a complete dissertation required to understand everything with brakes. It is a system often mis-understood. I'll do what I can here to at least send you in the right direction.

There are 37 or so combinations of piston sizes for ST40 calipers from Stoptech. Larger piston sizes = more force output and more pedal travel with all else being equal. Brakes more like suspension where balance between front and rear is what matters most. Search for brake bias and brake balance to get a deeper understanding on that. Force outputs for one vehicle do not necessarily translate to better performance for another vehicle. How do you think x-runner suspension(spring rates, rebound, etc) would perform on a 4runner?

It is far easier to just upgrade to stainless steel lines, more aggressive pads and slotted rotors. Granted the pedal feel isn't as nice as having the caliper replaced, but actual performance is better than putting an incorrectly spec'd caliper on the vehicle.

X-Runner was built for drag strips not for Off-Roading like the 4Runner. The 4Runner won't be seeing corners and 100+ MPH runs. It's pointless and an added weight to the car. Also, rim specs will change with BBK setups.

Some 4runners also have bigger tires, added metal bumpers, roof racks AND drive hwy speeds and in town stop light traffic . Any vehicle can benefit from bigger brakes, more stopping power

I have never had a complaint about the brakes on my 5th Gen... with the brake assist, it stops very well....

I would imagine the spindles are different which would translate into it being incompatible. The six lug components are beefier than the often "cheaper" five lug setup. You'd need to do multiple measurements at mounting points, offset, brackets, ect. Not to mention the braking force might not be much better than the six lug. You'd be better off trying to repurpose a FJ BBK.

The issue is the Land Cruisers use a different 5-Lug axle set-up than the smaller 5-lugs used on "bargin" Tacomas that the X-Runner uses.
