TRD CAI Question

Hey everyone,

I finally got around to installing the TRD CAI this weekend. Pretty straight forward install, didn't take too long (although I did have a rusty bolt break off but that's an easy fix). So far I have not had a chance to really open it up (trying to see if I have any MPG gain first before I let her loose).

My one concern is the rubber seal around the air inlet does not fit around the hole all the way (about an inch gap) and the inlet itself doesn't really sit flush against the fender. I noticed a few people have had this same problem but I couldn't really find what people did for a solution. Did everyone just leave it be or did someone find an easy fix? Thanks in advance.

i know the trd has an oval shape going to the fender, but maybe you can find a rubber coupling large enough to do this. mines a volant box, but principle should be the same.

Where did you end up finding that, a regular auto store? Also, does it fit right into the hole in wheel well or is it just surrounding it? Seems like that would be the easiest thing to do.

they sell rubber coupllings in the plumbing dept of home depot. im sure it can be squeezed to form the oval shape, they cost only about 3 bux. i just bought one that fit the box inlet. i did widen the fender hole a bit, which is easy to do, & the stock box will cover that if its replaced. the tight fit really creates good suction from inside the fender! if you dont want to trim the fender opening, just get a coupling to fit the box & cut that shorter so it fits snug against the fender. they also have reducer ones like i have. goodluck

I also had a 1" gap...I just left it...and I broke a bolt as well...

How long has it been since you installed and have you cleaned the filter yet to see if anything serious has gotten in there from the gap? I'm thinking of just leaving it if you haven't noticed anything serious...but I will replace the broken bolt when I get a chance, that's funny you had the same thing happen.

its been about a year and no, I have not cleaned the filter, but it looks clean inside the box.
