TRD Intake available now!

Rusty Bolts

Anyone else on the forum notice that the bolts holding the air sensor on the CAI tube have started to rust? Mine has been installed for a very short time and I'm already seeing rust on those 2 bolts. This seems crazy!

Let me know what yours are looking like.

Thanks!

I just installed the TRD intake this past Friday and it has rained the past couple of days. More rain and humidity are on its way so I will keep a watch and see if mine do the same.

Thanks, let me know what you find. I called the Dealership that I purchased the intake from on eBay and they are sending me out 2 replacement bolts free of charge. Great customer service! I suppose I'll shoot the new ones with some rustoleum before re-installing them.

So, for those of you who have the intake and have moved past stomping the pedal for the thrill of the new sound; has anyone found any real mpg benefit?? I'm with everybody on the cool looks and sound factor but....

I definitely got a 1-2 mpg increase which was a very nice partial offset from what I lost from the lift and bigger tires.

Bought this today - arriving in a couple of days. Any long term feedback from anyone who has installed this CAI? Regrets or problems?

Thanks!

Does anyone have data on how the TRD intake compares to the K&N intake? I'm having trouble deciding.
Not sure about the TRD, but I had a K&N on my FJ Cruiser and it was relatively simple to install, and I really enjoyed the performance boost (even though that boost may have been subliminal with no facts and data to back it up!~)

Same here....no comparative data, but the K&N on my LX450 delivered better performance, 1-2 mpg increase, and no whistle. I'm still debating on the TRD for the 2010 Trail.....I may have to drive over and look at Dispense's ....

I just received my TRD Intake this afternoon. I specified it as an option with the purchase of the truck and was excited with the idea of having a CAI installed right out of the gate.

Once I opened the box and compared the unit to what comes stock I was immediately disappointed. Essentially, its the same box configuration as stock with a much better filter. There really is nothing "Cold Air Intake" about it.

This is perhaps where I have it wrong. The box lists it as a Performance Kit.

Sorry to be a buzzkill here, but I don't understand the benefits of this enhanced closed system. The box is already plumbed to the fender wall and the tubing geometry doesn't really change. The tubing diameter is not noticeably larger than stock. I think the TRD box might be a bit taller and therefore offers a little more volume, but in the end, I don't see the benefit in relation to the expense for the lack of design and uncertain performance. Yeah, its got that big pimpin "TRD" look, but am I missing something here?

I'm going to hold out for now and maybe do a K&N or wait until I find something that offers more value.

I would welcome your thoughts.

I noticed a bit more power at the high-end and a 1-2 mpg increase with the TRD CAI. Not too mention it just sounds cool. ;)

The TRD kit has 0 baffles on the intake where the stock intake has several. I definitely agree that other CAI models are a straight tube with a cone shaped filter, which definitely seems a little less restrictive. Regardless, I love my TRD CAI and would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Just installed mine tonight, A HUGE THANKS TO TOYSTRY for his detailed write-up instalation post. Everything went smooth and together with the BORLA cat back, this thing screams at WOT. I am getting some kind of flutter noise at WOT from the passenger side so not sure what that is. All in all i am happy with it, looks nice too. Cant coment on the MPG yet because I keep stomping on the accelerator.

Another shot.

No arguing the cool factor, looks fantastic. I put on 275's about 700 miles ago now and have reset the MPG twice and I basically seem to have lost .8 MPG to be exact. I have 36K on my ride and mostly highway driving. For an SUV I still get great MPG do to highway and V6, wondering how much this might improve my MPG, especially giving how much highway.

Again, LOOKS awesome!

In my experience, you will gain no mileage back. Basically this intake looks cool, sounds great and adds a little boost in throttle responsiveness. It's a fun way to waste $400, but I wouldn't buy for any kind of significant performance improvement. FWIW, I don't regret getting the TRD and would buy it again, given the second chance.

Remember that with larger diameter tires unless you recalibrate, the car will show less miles traveled.

This was WAY too easy....I must have done something wrong: no scraped knuckles, no extra parts, 1.5 hours max, including tool location time.

I like this thing....

Funny thing, with my larger 285/70/R17 tires my speedometer is actually more accurate now than it was with the stock tires (checked against a GPS).
