TRD Performance Air Intake

Hello, I just got my new 14 Trail a week or so ago. I dearly love my new T4R Trail. I take it off road almost every night after work and that thing is a mountain goat. I love the way it handles itself off road and on. Nicest vehicle I have ever owned and looking forward to many years with it. I am having a blast buying the stuff I want on it. I started with WeatherTech Digital floor mats for the front. I ordered a set of N-Fab Nerf steps for the sides. Those will make it much easier to get in with all my wading gear on. I'm considering getting the TRD Performance Air Intake system, It's going to cost around 500.00 with the tax. I don't mind spending the money and it looks cool. I'll have to save up to buy it, but, is there something I am missing that I should put the money into before I do that? I don't really want to lift it, this truck is plenty high enough for what I want to do. I like the factory rims, but when I wear the tires out, I plan to get new rims and maybe a little wider tires. I would rather not worsen the fuel milage if I could prevent it. Does anyone know if that air intake will give me a noticeable difference? Thanks for your time, Fly_Addict

No just buy an afe dry filter , already have cold air intake . Course I own a 4th gen too

I have one on one of my 5th gens, honestly it does NOtHING at all. It has a larger air inlet and a higher flow filter, with a volume meter to indicate filter replacement. But unless you are going to do exhaust also you may be better off just not messing with it.

I have no plans for exhaust at the moment, so other than looking cool (IMO) it has no real Benifits.

I did air and exhaust on my F150 a few years ago and between the two, I improved my fuel milage by 2 mph on the highway. Made no difference in town or off road. I just haven't been able to find one for the new T4R's yet. Looking cool is always good though!!

I did exhaust on both of my 4th gens, but I don't want to cause warranty issues with my 5th gens, so they exhaust will have to wait.

On my 4th gen the intake and exhaust killed my MPG, lost about 2 Hwy and 3 city. Because these are maf vehicles The ECM adjusts for the added air coming in and it gives it more fuel to keep the ratio optimal. So in short, you get a little more power, but the ECM uses up your fuel for ya.

All that said, I'm keeping my TRD CAI.

Toy2G, Those are good points and I will consider them all. Amazing how different manufacturers make their products work differently. Who knows if I will spend the money for the new intake, I probably will eventually because I LOVE my T4R and like cool stuff on it. Thanks for your expertise!! Fly_Addict

IMO it is pretty cool looking, makes opening your hood worth it. See post 22 and 72 in my build thread for an installed shot.

Toy2G, I just read the whole post about your build. I am amazed!!! That is one good looking' truck. Very impressive. I'll never go that far, but i really like the way your T4r looks!!
