Hi Fellow Runners..!
I just got my new used toy. A 2016 4Runner SR5! but I been the owner of a 1997 4Runner with 300,833 miles and still kicking!!!
Thank U to you all Fellow Runners! And to T4R.org! I have learned a lot from all your post and 4 helping each other.
The reason for this post is because I want a cold air intake for my 5thgen Runner but I don’t want to spend $500 on it. But I think I might have a solution for that and hoping to help many of you. I don’t know if someone try this already.
But before I present this idea to all of you I need some help from anyone that has installed a TRD cold intake in their 5th gen runner.
I want to try on mine and if it works many of us is going to benefit from it.
If u own a TRD Intake can u please give me the measurements of the coupling that connects from the pipe to the air box.
I called Toyota but they don’t have the specs of it. If any of you can please help me with that?
Thank U!

There are numerous write ups of people who have pieced together the TRD for cheap, just FYI

If you’re proposing to swap the pipe for the trd one it won’t work. Wont connect to the stock air box.

When you called Toyota did you tell them you need the dimension but you couldn't tell them what for until they gave you the dimension?

TRD "cold air intake" pulls air from the same spot as the factory intake. there's nothing that makes the air colder than factory. it sure does look nice, and perhaps sounds better. but I don't understand why they market it as a cold air intake as if it is pulling better /colder air than stock? :llama: basically $500 for some TRD decal parts and a bit better sound at 3k rpm. what am I missing???

I picked up the “TRD flow accelerator” and a K&N panel filter. Seems to work fine for me.

This. Vastly cheaper than the $500 "cold air intake" and just as effective.

FYI: the part number for the flow accelerator is PTR03-35090-AC.

Are you guys able to smoke Honda Passports in your souped up 4Runners with aftermarket intakes?

Vtec has nothing on the trd intake!

:focus:

TRD intake can be purchased for $175-400 range , with discounts & parting together vs whole kit. I pieced one together for the heck of it and something to work on. Would I do it again probably not , lost 1 mpg and gained some sound at 3k rpm but i do like the cleaner engine bay. If bored and want something to do go ahead and buy it.

the honda ridgeline gets so much hate from the 'real truck bros' but really it's the truck 90% of people need that buy a truck to haul their 10 bags of soil or 2 pieces of 2x4 from home depot 3x a year

it's a really nice vehicle. everytime I see a black edition one driving around I think damn that looks nice
