TRD Pro Fox Shock Clunk

While the sound isnt great (but doesnt happen all that often) Im not convinced they will be able to come up with a solution that isnt a completely redesigned coilover. There are quite a few moving pieces and when heated up and cooled down allow for tolerances which I believe lead to the noise.
Also on further reading it sounds like Raptor owners deal with similar issues. Im guessing Fox tried to make something more durable for an OEM configuration and this is the result.
Im still going to bring my vehicle in so its noted on file, but not expecting a solution.

Mine will be dropped off the 23rd and picked up the 30th. The master tech is pretty confident he will be ordering replacement components. His initial thought was at least shocks, but may also include sway bar end links and bushings. What is troublesome is, it doesn't seem to be the whole population of Pro's affected.
Jason so the dealership is going to replace your Fox Shocks an ETC? All my dealership said was they would add me to the their complaints and then wait to see what Toy/Fox decides to do.. What dealership are you dealing with in Ohio? Thanks Cameron
Cameron - When I described the conditions and noise mine was making to the service adviser and then master tech, they confirmed that this is not new and said countermeasures range from just replacing the shocks to replacing shocks and all bushings and end links. They need to assess the severity, so I agreed to drop it for a week. This is Jim White Toyota of Toledo.

Took my wife’s 19 to the dealer last week for this problem as well. Only difference is it started doing it before it ever got into the 30’s here. More like low 50’s. They game me this informational bulletin I’m posting a picture of. Notice the date of May 2019 in the top right. They’ve known about it for a while. Seems to be coming mostly from the right rear in my situation. Gonna be taking it back as it’s rather annoying.

I know external bypass shocks can make a clicking sound during operation, but that the nature of them. I didn't think internal bypass shocks made as much, if any, noise.
I'd like to hear this sound you guys are hearing.

I had a clunking sound for years in the cold (I don't have TRD pro shocks, but I did spend a LOT of time chasing the noise down on my setup), and it turned out that there was some slop in the lower mounting bracket. It would get louder in the cold because the aluminum misalignment spacers would contract at a slightly different rate than the steel standoff for the lower rear shock. I found this by having a friend rock the truck by standing on the sliders and jumping up and down hard while I searched around under the truck. Once I found the source, I could put my hand on the shock and make the noise disappear. I finally added a very thin spacer, and it's been silent ever since. I actually found the perfect washer at the local home depot, after a long search online. It's called a 3/4" shim washer, and it fits over the mounting post of the shock perfectly.

I know the TRD pro fox's use rubber bushings at the lower mounts, but do they have a metal sleeve through the bushing? Is it possible for this to be rattling? The lower shock bolts don't work like you might think-- the bolt bottoms out inside a sleeve, and the gap for the bottom bearing or bushing is a fixed depth. If the lower mounting misalignment spacers are even slightly narrower than this, it will rattle, especially in the cold. I've got to say-- it was a VERY difficult sound for me to chase down. I did everything including rebuilding the shocks to try to get rid of that noise.... and the final solution wound up costing $0.88

I hope they get it figured out as well and I hope the fix is a simple as a $0.88 part. Unfortunately, right now it’s a problem I and other people paid around $50k for.
It’s not even that the problem is that bad(yet), but a basically brand new vehicle shouldn’t sound like an old man trying to get out of bed whenever the suspension is flexing (mild exageartion).
I can honestly say that had I known this was a potential problem I would not have bought it. I should have bought an ‘18 instead of waiting for the ‘19
I’ll see if I can get a recording of my particular noise.

Agree 100%..you spend that kind of $$ on a vehicle and you don't want to hear it making any unusual noises...

There is no issue. It's a normal characteristic of the shock. There is nothing to figure out and fix.
I’m worried about this, too. Mine will be there all next week, but it’s supposed to be in the 40s all week. I have two different noises, both when cold. The first is the clunk when going over bumps. The second was described by another member in this thread as the sound of driving over snow, this occurs when I’m turning at low speed. Almost sounds like rubbing, but from the rear.
I was underneath most of the day and didn’t find anything noticeably out of sorts. Hopefully these noises will be replicated next week. Either way, I’ll have a loaner from the dealer, so it’s a nice way of keeping miles off it.
