TRD Pro - Front Coils Measurements

Just bought the TRD PRO suspension for my 2018 4Runner Off Road.

Question is with no added weight, how much of a lift will i get in the front if I pair it with the King 3" x 14" 600lb spring?

Has anyone tried this?

Haven't tried it yet, but I have springs with the same specs I plan on putting on soon. The Pro coils will give you ~1" over stock, and replacing them with the 14" coils should give another 1", maybe a bit more, because they are longer AND higher spring rate. This is all assuming you bought the 4Runner Pro suspension and not the FJ "Pro" suspension.

I actually bought the FJ "Pro" suspension on clearance at some dealers around the country.

Does that kit have a different spring?

Yes. The FJ kit comes with a 14", 600 lb spring. The 4Runner kit comes with a 13", ~550 lb spring. The reason that both give a ~1" lift in the front is because the spring perch position on the FJ coilover is 1" lower than the position on the 4Runner coilover.

Thank you that makes perfect sense.

So which would be better to buy to get a 2.5" total lift from stock;

A - 15" spring with 600 lbs
B - 14" spring with 650 lbs
C - 15" spring with 650 lbs

Note: Stock weight upfront

Well considering the spring with your kit is 14" 600 lbs, and that gives a ~1" lift, you may get close to 2.5" total with the 15" 650 lb spring (1" longer and a higher spring rate). I would think at least 2".

BUT you could run into serious issues with a spring that long if the strut is not designed for it. You might be near the full extension of the Bilstein suspension and then would top it out during full extension (tire droop), or the coil spring would bend and bind during full compression. Think about a little spring that you compress down between your fingers, and at a certain point it wants to bend one way or the other.

I think the Bilstein strut could handle that extension, because it's based off the 6112 which can provide a 2.5" lift, but that uses a 14" 600 lb coil spring, it just uses multiple higher spring perch settings which the Pro suspension does not have. So I personally would not recommend going longer than 14" due to the possibility of the coil bend and bind under compression. I don't know the guts or details of the FJ Bilstein suspension so please don't take this as fact. This is just my limited knowledge of how suspension systems work (some but not a ton haha).

Dobinsons is currently in the testing phase, I believe, of a coil that I think would be around 15", but probably only around 550 lb. So that would only get you another inch to be around 2" total above stock stock. But in speaking with Mike, he has concerns about coil bend and bind under full compression with a spring that long on the Pro suspension.

Bottom line...if you want 2.5" of lift up front, install the FJ Pro suspension, and then use a 1.5" lift spacer. Until someone tests a longer coil and deems it safe to use on that suspension, which may or may not happen. Yes TRD Pro 4Runner owners, you/we might not get a coil spring to provide an additional 2" of lift over the 1" you/we already have.

Unfortunately what you say makes sense and I definitely do not want to be a guinea pig for trying this on a new car.

Now I just need to do some research and find out how spacers effect the suspension on and off road

There's plenty of threads on here about spacer lifts so I'm sure you'll find plenty of information. Good luck man. I'm currently running a 1" cornfed spacer and I don't believe it has any negative effects. A larger spacer may affect the suspension more in a negative way, but there's lots of different facts and opinions in the research you'll probably find.

Seriously not trying to thread jack this but can someone please tell me if the TRD Pro coil will fit in my stock 2011 SR5? I cant find the dimensions of the 2011 SR5 front coil or spring rate.

TRD Pro Coil on your stock 2011 strut = No

Quick question to all of you guys that clearly have a better knowledge than me in this field...

If looking at King Coils, why stop at 14in ? why not 15in to get that +2in lift on the Pros ?

Thanks !

Any updates on the additinal 1” lift (total of 2”) utilizing a spring only (no spacers) for a TRD PRO T4R

Looking for OME, King, Dobinson, etc

TIA!

I've been looking for the same idea and have pieced together that any of these will work as long as it's a 14" coil designed for a 2.5 strut:

Wheeler's T1
Dobinsons TRD PRO Strut
TRD FJ Cruiser Coil

I have the 650# 14" King coils, as well as a 1" Toytec lift spacer (0.5" spacer). Works like a charm. I have actually about 3" lift over stock TRDP, and about 3.5-3.75" over other 4runners. Over the past two months I have played around with several different setups, as I get bored easy and can swap front springs in about 30 minutes. So far, I like the overall ride and look of this setup. The back end is a combo of OME springs and 1.5" Spacer For a total of 3.5 as well. The rear actually sits about 0.5" higher than the front, which is about perfect. I've been off-road quite a bit with this setup and have logged about 1,600 miles on it with no issues. I also have a diff drop installed.

I think you may have answered my own questions on the right setup for my 16 TRDP. You mentioned diff drop and the other elements I was considering the Toytec TRDP lift and change out coil since running bumper and winch and just use the rear spring that is comes with. Any issue with stock UCA at the level of lift or maxing out the strut with that spring combo? Also could provide tire size? Thx much looks great and appreciate any ideas.

 • I'm currently running 285/75's
 • No issues with the strut
 • 650lb springs are stiff as hell, but that will be remedied as I begin to add more weight.
 • UCA seems fine. As well as ball joints.
 • A Little over 80K miles total on my rig with everything else being stock.
 • Alignment is within the green around +1.5 caster on both sides, as to be expected with the stock UCA.
 • No issues with the CV's and I now have about 2,400 miles on this setup as of this post. About 8 hours logged off-road,

Due to the potential for coil bend and bind. Check out the conversation between myself and HoustonT4R ; a good post is #45.

Now way you’re rolling on 285/75R17. Those things look tiny on your 4Runner.
