TRD Pro LIFT? - Flamers Troll A Different Thread...

Interesting, besides the wait one, of the main reasons I didn't get the TRDP is because it didn't have everything available on the TEP. In the end I found it would be relatively easy and not unaffordable to build my version of the TDRP . . . add wheels, shifter, floor mats, my suspension, bigger tires and front bumper. In the end I got my sunroof, KDSS with a better suspension, lifted, winch, sliders with the TRDP look.

Bingo! Great reason to buy TE or TEP an add what you need . . . including the TRDP bling you like!

It doesn't . . . great points . . . and the primary reason not to pay a premium for a truck you plan to change the most expensive feature.

I've read in a number of threads, along with everyone else, how you drove to AZ and saved 2k off sticker . . . many who purchased a TEP saw 2k marked off the sticker before negotiations started. My TEP loaded with KDSS, Cargo Tray, Running Boards had just over 42k MSRP listed in window, dealer marked it down to 38k before negotiations started. I was out the door for substantially less than where you started . . . money used to add the TRDP bling. Been trying to avoid "dropping the drawer" comparisons . . . but the constant 2k off TRDP sticker was starting to hit like a sledge hammer

Again . . . I think the 4r is fantastic truck, all models. However as I've said it a number of times each trim level meets a different and unique need. Paying a premium for the one with most demand and least supply wouldn't be the one I would chose to majorly modify.

My .02

MSRP on my trdp was 42,180... so, we kind of started in the exact same place and my final price was 39,6. were splitting hairs man.
you walked away with KDDS and a sunroof i walked away with the appearance package (inside and out) and the suspension (which if i REALLY wanted i can sale when i lift it more, don't need to though) ...id say pretty fair and even all around for both of us on initial investment.

Had i paid a ridiculous amount of money extra for the pro then all this "you paid a premium" talk would have some ground, but if $1600 is what is dictating your car purchases then you might be overreaching by buying a car in this price range period. considering that a single King shock of the model I'm buying is $1400....then you might start seeing why all this "premium" talk is weird to me and lot of the guys that bought the truck.

the TRD suspension will be stowed away safely and ready to be reinstalled if i ever decide to sell this truck, its all reversible ;) but only if it commands more money because it somehow became more desirable than other 5th gen 4runners. that would be an unintended side perk, but it's there.

I wonder how much it is to paint the truck in Inferno? At least there are only50 of the same color out there. I like it and hate being like the kids. Would rather blaze my own path! (Patherfinder Airborne!)

I really dont get the issues. So what it is another 4runner one guy had a little more money liked something on it better, was it more sure! Are you a better bargain shopper? Well again I dont shop at Walmart so probably. When I take it. And do everything and anything I want to it will it make me happy, of course. Perhaps I should just take the truck and wap it Kryptek Highlander. That would be awsome and alot of money hah!

I think your missing the point. You paid nearly 40k while others are walking out the door with a loaded TEP for 36k. Add a full ICON stage 5, with adjustable coil overs, CDC adjusters, Billit UCA's, Billit Trail Link, TRD Wheels and bling and the extras run about 6k (what I paid). Heck pick Radflo, King, Fox, or whatever floats you 4Runner. However now you have around 42k in the truck along with Moonroof and KDSS and its dialed the way YOU want.

Don't get me wrong, many who bought the TRDP may not have cared about any of these features, or had no interest in changing a well equipped stock truck.

My point is specific to those eager to start making major changes. I love the look of the TRDP, it's easy to understand why it's so popular. However I believe someone looking to pull out the heart of TRDP performance might be better served with a different trim line.

it's certainly people's prerogative and i don't begrudge them that one single bit, but it's also the reason for the prickly, pre-emptively defensive title of this thread.

AND if you read my post as in 1st in this thread you are mistaken. It's pre-emptive because I AM NOT WILLING TO REMOVE the TRD Pro packaged parts.
Not being proficient in modding, thought, hey if I can do a cheap addition and gain an 1" why not. Otherwise, content the way it is stock.

Lastly, I am and have been a member of many forums. Personally, I cannot think of any other forums I'm a prt of where passionate people for the same brand and model year seemingly bash others for buying a series within the same model lineup. Sure bashing other brands or different series all together categorically, but ones of the same brotherhood I have not.
Gen 5 - TEP, TRD, SR5, Limited, who cares? Likewise, better value is a individual opinion as most buy for different reasons like aesthetics, function, features, bang for the buck, or combination of all. Frankly, some do not care about value as others do around these parts. One dollar to someone might be equivalent to $5 to someone else.

Knowing that there are not always well intentioned people I ABSOLUTELY titled this thread this way. Imagine how much more there would of been, a giant pile on I am sure. AS my original post stated I have no intentions of removing the TRD packaged parts.

I do appreciate the members that gave thought out helpful responses. Thank you.

ALSO, I do have think skin, so we can skip that incoming comment. I am not offended, just expressing my thoughts.

Enjoy your 4Runners people, which ever version it may be

sorry to upset you. i see that. please focus on this part of my statement:

ok, I'm not seeing your point. "the heart of the TRD performance" is not enough for many to pay the extra for this truck. The combination of this AND the appearance package is. Im wiling to bet more people bought it for the way it looks first, then the suspension was the kicker (of course others saw the other way to). The combination is what convinced most people to actually buy it.
I see no problem replacing the suspension (3hrs of my time) that cost as much as one King shock. I see a HUFE problem buying a trail and then having to change wheels, entire front clip, rear bumper, shift knob, AND suspension...because its still a stock street suspension on trail. i can at least hit the more of the harder trails already on stock TRD until i make changes. all this just to get it to where the TRD is now...no thanks, keep the money.

i fully support any TRDP owner that feels they can improve the suspension package, and i fully support those that i see on here looking to enhance the appearance of the truck by painting the hood or roof and other things I've seen around here. The truck is a starting point, not a collector item. let people do what they want without bringing up YOUR monetary concerns over it. Those of us here changing the truck up obviously have non of this concerns over it. Everyone that bought the TRDP saw the sr5, trail and limited on the lot and picked the TRDp, just like you picked the Trail.

to be honest, i really wanted a limited. I really prefer the AWD system to the transfer box on the sr./trail/trd and the interior amenities are way above all the trucks . but the fact that i was going have to change SO MUCH of the trucks exterior to really off road it was the end of that thought. way too much work, and money wise it was starting to enter the "throwing away money" territory a little bit. And seeing how the TRD looked i was going to want to make it look like that...way too much work.

it crazy..ive done nothing but explain myself here to other 4runner owners. then add that i wanted to change my suspension?! forget about it!

I've never been on a forum of a specific model that is like this.

Nope . . . you don't. So I'll quit :ybrick:

Looking forward to seeing your upgrades!

Captain America,t to save the world one TRD Owner at a ie. What you see as justifying why you woukdnt buy is not the same for others. Why not be helpful in a different manner if you really want to help? Like you are going to carry more weight then this spring or this spring may work well within your limitation of not changing out the shocks. Or you knwo if you are only doing this I would save your stock shocks since they where a part of the TRD package. That way ypu can retun it to stock and get a bette resale value,. Or, well since you have the TRD you have a couple choices, A. b. c. ...

Well fing woopti you bought a a limited pro thingy, good god wy hy would snyone pay that much for that autrosity. You get so much more in the non pro thingy. Hec you are ony paying a instead of b for the suspension to resplace it with c. Tha is the problem here in the ed everyonepaidsomhtin for the suspension, was it morein thepremiumsre, retail like others have shown no never works out that way as packages have some discounts. You are bashing your head and I am a Doc here watching you bleed while facepalming his head.

thank you. honestly. I'm excited about this truck, love the looks and i cant wait to get it trail ready and have fun with it.

listen, i do see your point about how monitarily it makes more sense to buy a trail. in fact, FOR ME an SR5 made more sense. Buying a trail and leaving it alone makes more sense, but you wanted to change the look and spend that money, i get that. it makes you happier with your truck, no one should knock you for that.

the point I'm trying to get across, which is different, is that me, personally, i care more about my time and effort than this money when were taking these $ amounts, thats all.
when not planning an outing/vacation i have very little time off work..and i do all the work on my trucks myself (I'm to close to OCD to have anyone else do it)..so you see how buying a truck that looks the way i like already is more important, put me ahead of the plan.

different strokes for different folks.

This also bothers me and I think I wonder about it too much. Is it the Forum or the vehicle?

Why is it that everything has to turn into a fight around here?

:usa2:

Because most people have no clue about the subject. Notice I don't post in electrical threads. There is a reason for that...

Installed my Toytec BOSS, Total Chaos UCA's, ATX Teflon Ledge Wheels, and Cooper ST Maxx's.

And before anyone says it, I know...

:worthless:

Check out my build thread later this evening, and I will try and get some pictures up.

I am just happy, and couldn't wait to post. You people are so much more amused and excited for things like this than my fellow co-workers.

That is the whole reason I am here on this forum. Because nobody else understands the passion except the people here.

I look forward to seeing them later tonight.

Damn ipad, also auto corrects wrong. It is a pain in my ass when typing responses.

I did end up getting a Icon Billet rear lower Link. i am working on the front Billet UCA right now. I will definitely go with the rear Billet upper link as well as the cross bar. From there I will have to see how much my mods add weight to the suspension , ie front winch. Skid plates etc. trying to go with Aluminum where I can and when it is affordable. I will definitely need some tupe of leveling kit or spring as 1. I cant stand the rake look 2. Seems to dive even more fromexperience whe braking 3. Looks like crap. But may wait until I add the winch. I just found out Superwinch gives a substantial discount to .mil.
I am i terested to se the work arounds that others are doing while keeping the factory components as well as how aftermarket parts compare to the stock setup. It does give me a better idea of what direction to go when I get to tha point.

Alas, right now the only mod I have besides the Icon parts is a Gobi rack and I dont even own the truck yet. When I sell my other components from the FJ, ARB Bumper, Warn Rear Bumper, Interior Mods, Walker Evans Beadlocks, and Toyos I will ave more money to do my mods, when I sell the FJ then that will be just icing on the cake.

I have a 12.5 talon Superwinch on my LR Discovery. I was shocked at how light and small they are for their rating. I was going to buy a 9 but looking at the weights I saw that I could go with a much stouter one and not pay the weight price. . Of course my first thought was that they wouldn't be any good but all the guys that ran them assured me there was no punishment in quality for the weight and size of it.

I've had it in 2 years and beat the crap out of it and hasn't skipped a Beat, highly recommend them. For sure the ways go if you're worried about the weight up front. I think the 12.5 was only 68-70lbs and the 9.5 was just 65lbs. I remember the warns were much heavier. I've used warns in the past and they're great of course, but so far this Superwinch has stood up to all the same punishment.

I have used mostly Warn, i did have ine on my D90 cant remeber the modle I think it was the Bill Burke edition. Anyways, I am now much more constrained in my budget and they do give me 40% off not too shabby. I am now constrained by the undercover Winch mount they say it will only fit a 9-10k mount and the Comtroller box has to be mountable somewhere else. I definitely plan on tskig advantage of the offer before my card expires.
