TRD pro Muffler on 3rd gen 4Runner

My muffler is pretty much shot and leaking. Been searching around here to see what the general consensus is on exhaust options. Seems like everyone has different opinion on what sounds good and what seem to last the longest. The stock muffler from Toyota is close $500 so I feel like that's not a smart purchase. I might be tempted to buy the TRD exhaust if it was still available. I definitely prefer the quietness of the stock exhaust or maybe a little extra like a stock plus and that got me thinking. I've seen a bunch of basically new take off exhaust systems for TRD Pro Tacomas and 4Runners. Basically get this out of my garage type listing where you can buy the whole thing for $100 - $200 because the owner upgraded to something else. What if you just took the muffler and tip from that system and got a exhaust shop to make you one using those components? Anyone have any experience doing something like this?

I don't have any experience but that could be a great idea. The stock Toyota piping on these engines is the odd 2.4" piping that is crush bent down to 2.25" on the bends. If you had a shop step that up to 2.5" or even 2.75" crush bent and re-use the muffler and tip, you should be able to do it on the cheap. Although you can get some quality mufflers brand new in the $100-$125 range.
