TRD Pro Side Mirror Swap/Upgrade

Has anyone examined the wire harness for the side mirror in the TRP Pro?

1. Does it have the wires needed for the puddle lights, side markers (assuming those are turn signals) or heated mirrors?
2. Will the TEP mirrors physically bolt on to the TRD Pro?
3. Anyone pulled this off?
4. Perhaps minimally the puddle light could be modded in the the factory mirror?

Toyota pretty much wires each option and model just to handle that specific task. Sorry. Of course it could be done but don't rely on existing electrical wiring or componentry.

Had heard similar in other contexts... At least tapping in off the door lights would get a puddle light pretty easily... Thanks.

No worries, absolutely! You have both turn signals and puddle lights, correct?

I think this might make the Toyota brochure officially incorrect as it claims TRD Pro has everything from TEP then plusses.

I wouldn't mind doing this mod, and will eventually. I mean it's certainly a nice feature but not critical.

Yeah mine has both along with heat. The PRO has heated mirrors right?

Me too, any preliminary ideas? Buy an entire mirror assembly, repaint colored part to match, enable both puddle and turn signal light?

Although it could be done well or hacked, I'm also thinking about a way to simply retrofit a puddle only LED.

I have a tutorial someone sent me on how to swap the assemblies, you'd just move your painted plastic parts to the new housings, it's the same part between non-turn signal mirrors and turn signal mirrors. But it's like a 300-400 dollar mod. It aint cheap.

Are you sure the lower housings are identical? Any idea where to pick up existing turn signal wires, perhaps on each side. Pretty sure I can get the entire mirror assemblies at a local junk yard for cheap! See if that might work for you!

Yes the lower housings are identical. Again while this is a neat mod, it's absolutely on the bottom of my priority list.

[MENTION=269972]DEUS-MACH1NA[/MENTION], it seems us Washington folks are on the same page lol. Already a step ahead in that department. I've been running the prototype on my base SR5 since May. Have been working with Japan since June to get what I needed to do this, and have placed an order for some connectors (About 5000 each to be precise, with a lead time after the first of the year) to do this mod. Yes, it took this long to order. Apparently the OEM had to get the ok from Toyota and Murakami (they make the mirrors) or so they said. The connectors I needed were not available through Toyota, or anyone else, so I went to the OEM and pleaded my case lol. I should have everything I need for production by end of March, so stay tuned! :dancin:

It will be 90% plug and play, and require the insertion of four wires. Basically, All TRD PRO, Base TRAIL/TRD OFFROAD, and SR5 will be able to run premium mirrors with the turn signal and mirror light.:thumb3:

I will give a update/hint in that there are five projects in various stages right now.

1. Mirror Harness (Waiting for parts for production/ ETA: MAR 19')
2. "Project H" (Prototype/Proof of Concept)
3. "Project S" (Prototype/Proof of Concept)
4. "Project DL" (Waiting for parts for production/Testing)
5. "Project PDS" (Research at this point)

When the times come, will do:cheers: Guys, I am just getting warmed up.eace: Things are slowly progressing, but at a steady rate.

If a few of those other projects pan out like I am hoping, the possibility of adding things that no 5th gen. has from the factory might be in the future, and trim levels will continue to blur even more. It's just a matter of making things work in a clean and concise fashion.

Some of the projects listed might not be mods that people will want to do in high amounts, but the research and info will be there for those who want to do it, and for those who want to build off them.

I really need to do a build thread where I can document things in detail for future use like circuit board diagrams for the Instrument Cluster, Body MPX, ECM, etc, tear down guides for the dash, and how the different sub systems in the 4R work independently and together, and why more importantly certain components can be omitted and why some are necessary.

It's time to make an Info/build thread.
