TRD Pro Skid on '15 4Runner TE w/ KDSS

Hey all,

After months of lurking around here :keyboard:, finally pulled the trigger on a '15 4Runner Trail Edition w/ KDSS which should be here in ~3 weeks.

Got some good pricing on parts, so originally ordered the TRD Pro skid plate through them. All my googling so far point towards it not fitting on KDSS models due to interference with the lower piston/ sway bar area, but the dealer says they order parts through vehicle VIN and would refund me if it doesn't fit...

Is it a secret KDSS TRD Pro version skid plate just for us Canadians? Or another idiot in the parts dept?? Will share the final verdict when it gets here..

Probably an idiot in the parts department. But you should be able to get any decent machine shop to remove/cut the side plates where it needs clearance for the KDSS. Try to snap a picture of a 4R without KDSS at the dealer so the mechanic can see the differences.

The original concept TRD Pro had KDSS and I'm 99% sure that it had the same stamped skid plate with the side skirts notched out to fit around the KDSS bar.

It should be pretty easy to cut to fit. Aluminum is soft. Get a jig saw with an appropriate blade and make a quick couple cuts. Smooth the edges a bit with your abrasive tool of choice and you're in business.

Once I finish up with everything I will post pics etc. I just had too much other stuff going on last week to finish it.

You will have to modify it slightly. If you are good with tools and aluminum cutting you will do it less than an hour. Hard to explain how and where to trim and I have no pics for you. You will see on vehicle once the plate is test fitted. GL

Or just get an aluminum skid plate from RCI for probably less money and definitely less hassle than buying a TRD PRO skid plate and having to cut it.

looking forward to seeing it. i wondered if it was kosher to remove those braces, but knowing now that Shrockworks requires removing them to mount their skid i feel much better.

thanks for posting pics when you get a chance. the TRD skid is the single Pro component i'd hoped to debase by incorporating it into my lowly KDSS Trail.

Plus the aftermarket skids have way more coverage. They take place of both factory front pieces.

the Pro skid is actually a good bit less expensive (than aluminum RCI). particularly if you can order/pickup at your local dealer.

Verdict: Idiot at parts dept... while I was there, snapped a pic to my KDSS TE vs a non-KDSS SR5 for comparison to those who wish to avoid my scenario. Dealer issuing me a refund on the TRD Pro skid.

stock or + size KO2's? they look like they might be 275?
dealer almost ordered the 275 size by mistake, they only came in E load so i requested they stick with the stock 265 which come in C and E

What is the benefit of having the TRD skid plate? I have a '15 TE and it came with a skid plate but it's just not stamped with TRD. Would there be a benefit to upgrading the one that came on it?

It does fit with KDSS on a 15 4R Trail. I will edit the post with the part number from the box when I get home. Just spent two hours pulling off the two pieces underneath and the TRD plate isn't wide enough to clear the KDSS bar. Instructions are also wrong AND I sheared a bolt off to boot. Fortunately I was able to vice grip it out. PO'd as I bought the plate from where I bought my truck so they looked it up to order it. AND since the box says FJ on it I had them look up the part number again to confirm it before I walked out. What a pain in the A$$.

Thanks. I read thru and if I have it right people are removing the curved support brackets to get the skid to fit with KDSS. I verified my part number but my skid is straight down the sides. Are people cutting them to fit? I just don't see it fitting as is even without the supports in place.
