That's only going to happen if he has gap insurance. Once the vehicle leaves the dealer lot, most insurance companies will consider it used and price it likewise. Easily a $2000 deduction on the first day. They will also deduct 20 cents per mile that it had on it. He will be hard pressed to get every penny back, depending on the ins company.
That's what I'd expect. The insurance company is going to pay fair market value for the car the day it was stolen, not new replacement value.
I would expect the KBB value or best average price of a similar age car. And there aren't that many 6 month old TRD Pro to base that price on. Maybe base the fair value on a dealers demo or the percent off of MSRP for a 6 month old 4Runner in any of the other 5 models - the SR5, SR5P, TE, TEP or Limited. Use the same percent off of MSRP to find the value of used TRD Pro. That figure would require some serious homework. But worthwhile if the OP wants to get a fair shake.
These vehicles hold their value very well. I'd be surprised to find one for sale of a similar age at MSRP minus $2000 and $0.20 per mile.
