TRD Pro with 6112 coils (pics inside)

I was seriously considering this 6112 coil as a lift option, but I remembered that Dobinsons had canceled their project for a 600lb 14x3 coil on the stock TRD Pro strut.

I wanted to do some more research, because the last thing I want to do is destroy a perfectly good shock for no reason. After digging through the Dobinsons thread, I found out why they canceled the project. All quotes are from Dobinsons Mike, a well known suspension guru here on the forums.

Post #1071: "Just because we can make a taller and stronger coil for these struts doesn't mean we should, so we have to test the product, and also watch the market and see the demand. The 1" lifted coil is a very minor upgrade, but the 2" doesn't leave a lot of down travel in the struts, and historically, struts left riding with minimal down travel end up topping out repeatedly until the top seal blows."

Post #1140: "They're not even recommending any coil [Bilstien] other than stock on their struts. Look here: Broken Bilstein 5100 FrontS I know they're 5100's and not Pro/6112 Struts, but still."

Post #1244:"We didn't get that far to check the down travel. I don't think the struts are strong enough to handle the extra lift."

There were a couple more quotes that I lost in the frenzy of open tabs. Whoops!

I don't think Dobinsons spent a ton of time doing in field testing (a few months on a couple vehicles according to the thread) with the 14x3 HD coil, but they are suspension experts, so I take their word. However, nothing beats testing the real deal. I'd love to hear how everyone's shocks are doing after several thousand miles of testing.

At the moment, I think I am going to hold off on the 6112 14x3 coils due to the comments made by Dobinsons, but I would love to be proven wrong by folks actually running this setup!

So there are a lot more posts from people doing more research on this and ultimately deciding the 14" coils would be fine on the TRD Pro coilovers which I agreed with from the beginning. I did this swap back in the late summer/early fall of 2018 I wanted to give an update on how my suspension is doing after running this setup for nearly 50,000 miles.

Frankly, I've loved every damn mile of it. I've taken my 4runner all over: Moab, Sedona, Anza Borrego, Joshua Tree, Coyote Flat, Mojave Rd, etc. and have put this suspension through its paces. It has impressed me over and over again with every obstacle and terrain I've thrown at it. Coils have not sagged at all after many long loaded down trips (and more than a couple bump stop hits lol) and shocks are still doing just fine. Still as responsive as the day I had them installed. And I have not found that the down travel was limited at all by this swap. Only limiter is the IFS as we all know haha. And 600# is not too stiff for a DD if you have a little weight such as sliders, skids, roof rack.

Sorry if this has been answered, but on a non TRD we should be able to get this same stance with 6112's up front and 5100's in the rear with the T13 springs correct?

Are you talking full 6112’s (struts and coils)? If so, yes. Putting longer coils on sr5 stock struts wouldn’t give you this or be advised.

Nice setup, don’t forget get bigger tires: this will give you that added clearance, not necessarily the lift itself... that and your rig won’t look like it skipped leg day.

I did leave that part out. Our SCS Stealth 6 wheels and 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeak's just arrived.

So after reading all this am I understanding correctly that none of this will work on a 19 4R TRD PRO with the OEM Fox shocks? I know they are still early in the game and I would love to do something like this with keeping the OEM Fox shocks and getting a mild lift from swapping out the coils front and rear.. Thanks in advance...

Eiabch makes springs for 19/20 pros for Fox shocks from what i hear they are very nice
