TRD Skid Plate - Solid vs Red Lettering

Hey Guys,

I was SO EXCITED... I just received my TRD Skid (PTR60-89190) from:

Toyota Skid Plate Front Trd PTR60-89190 | BAM

BUT... I received the skid plate with the stupid red lettering inserts!!

Did I screw up on the part number or did they? Other people have posted that those letter break, and plus I don't think the red letters will go that great with my Nautical Blue TRD Off Road.

Please enlighten me if I ordered the wrong thing. Thanks!

I have tried to call 3x and no answer, so I sent them an email. Awaiting response.

I think the new ones come with the lettering. Some paint will make red blue, or better yet, pry the letters off as they tend to fall off eventually.

I have yet to see the back of these. Is it like the Tuffskinz (sp?) inserts where they are just adhesive to the stamped TRD? If so why not just heat em up and pull off?

If they are drilled through and riveted or something then I guess that stinks, lol. You could always pull off and put a black, or dark blue, Tuffskinz.

I guess I will have to wait and see what the website says...

Are the tuffskinz applied with adhesive?

Here's a pic of the other side:

Oh wow, they did drill holes.

Yeah the Tufskinz are just adhesive, so you can pop the red off and do a different color, or see if you can trade for older part #/model

Pretty sure another thread stated the old PN (no red) was discontinued and only the red lettering ones were available now.

I'll look for it.

I'm a chick, and I don't even like the "red lipstick" letters.

Haha, depending on what BamWholesale says, I might just have to uninstall, paint and reinstall!

I'm still so disappointed, can someone call the whambulance? :cry2:

BAM’s reply when I asked if they have the old version (still listing wrong p/n on Amazon).

Honestly though, just pulling them off and having a few symmetrical holes wouldn't be a big deal to me. Some aftermarket skids have holes for drainage all over.

I had the skid plate itch few weeks ago and after canceling an order, returning another one plus getting the oppsey feedback from BAM I’m certain most vendors are not even aware the new part number means red trd letters so they keep using old stock photos showing the stamped skid plate.

I guess I'm the only one who likes the red. [emoji15]
I think it matches the red trd on my wheel. Well shit I guess Barbies shoes gotta match her purse. [emoji16]

Puma of we were closer I'd happily trade ya.

So the new version has smaller TRD letters. So if you order Tufskinz order the 2016 Tundra TRD letters. I found out the hard way.

Thanks for the help Saker, but that's the same stock picture and same part # that I ordered.... same price too!

I may just have to bite the bullet on this one if they aren't making it anymore. I could always get my husband to bondo the holes then paint over it. He is a sculptor and has all the tools necessary to do so. It's just more work.

I guess I was really just wanting a "plug and play" without having to mod my mod. :ohwell:

Hah! I'll let you know next time I'm LA... family in Baton Rouge!

It's not that the red is that terrible, I hate the thought of plastic letters breaking off for the price I paid, and the fact that the website was totally misleading.

Eh... first world problems, there are more important things to worry about.
