TRD Skid Plate - Solid vs Red Lettering

Only speculation here.

The Toyota letters are held on with the barbed posts and tape, but when I took them off the tape was not stuck to the plate at all. So I can see why they might come off easy with the edges lifting up so easy.

The Tufskinz tape seems much more aggressive, but I have not applied them yet. When I do a alcohol wipe down then some heat will be my approach. Should prevent pealing. Plus the Tufskinz are edge to edge, the Toyota versions have a 1+mm gap around the edges, allowing whatever to get up into that gap and peal/pry them off or dirt and water to weaken the bond on edge.

Also, can't find 2016+ Tundra TRD on Tufskinz' site. How long did you purchase them?

I just compressed the barbs on the posts and pushed them out with a screw driver. Pretty easy and no damage to them. The tape was still tacky, so maybe pulling them, cleaning the surface and using a heat gun to warm up the tape and plate might make them stick better? Or new 3M tape.

I just got the Tufskinz about two weeks ago.

Okay my bad from my texting with Tufskinz. Lots of back and forth, but in a good way. BTW they were great to deal with in every way and sent me the replacement ASAP. I measured the old and new inserts and the skid plate and sent them engineering drawings to comfirm.

Anyway I just grabbed the package. #TACO16-DCF-G

So I need up installing the TRD Skid that I received.

At some point, when the red letters break off I will order Tufskinz in matte black, but I was jut too damn excited to get it on!

PSA... good luck with getting ANY customer service from Bamwholesaleparts.com

They never answer the phone, call you back or respond to any emails. I will never be ordering from there again!

That IS the one with the red letters. The one without red letters has been replaced with this.

were you able to remove the lettering? I just received the same skid plate and it looks like its 3m tape holding them in. I plan on painting the skid plate black, but need to remove the lettering first

Nah, I just left them in for now until one pops out.

Just be careful you don't break the clips when you pop them out, a little elbow grease should do the trick, good luck!

itll take some work to peel the 3m tape off, as for the clips not sure they are doing much.

This morning I taped off the lettering and used satin black rustoleum on the skid plate. Turned out good

Unable to upload a pic of the can but it was rustoleum satin black . I did two coats to make sure nothing was missed. As for taping Taking your time , I used an exacto knife to keep it clean .

I might try this with plasti-dip first as I can most likely just spray it on and peel off the letters after. Looks pretty damn nice either way. Mine should be here next week. I just never thought to paint it black. "I see a red door and I want to paint it black!..."

did the install this morning very straightforward. First pic shows I was missing a bolt on the left side and right side was almost out from a previous dealer service. It is luck of the draw on who you get at the dealer for service, not too concerned about it.
Install took about 30 minutes taking my time. I did rethread the holes with a 10mm x 1.25 tap. After I did this the bolts went in without issue plus I used anti seize. I tried tightening them first without rethreading but didnt go in as far. I do need a car wash sometime soon!
