TRD Struts

Hey everyone. Does anyone know where I can source these. I have had a heck of a time looking for the ted struts for our rigs.

I was wondering if buying the new strut replacements at an auto parts store would work... they don't seem to care about them being trd specific.

what struts do you want? ones fro a tundra, tacoma or FJ?

there never was a TRD strut for the 4runner, 4runners never had a TRD package...

are you looking for the TRD tundra front lift setup? or what?

Sorry I am looking for the front lift setup I have been reading up on, the trd Tundra setup.

Just wondering if I got the tundra struts from a standard tundra, would they work the same way or not?

No, to get the lift you also need adjustable Bilstein 5100's. Either the Tacoma or Tundra model. Do your own research, but from my research people seem to prefer the Tundra model (they are different).

I bought mine last week from Down South Motorsports. $220 shipped, another 20 for the dust guards.

Out of stock till this Wednesday.


The top plate is different for the Tundra's as well. You have to use a spring isolator (wheelers) and install your 4runner top plate pending it's in good condition.
 
its unclear... some guys have gotten lift and some guys say they have lost height(dont ask me why)... the reason guys get the TRD set up is not so much the strut as it is the coil you get with the TRD package... the TRD tundra coils are a progressive rate coil, meaning at first they are nice and soft, and give a good daily driver ride, but the more you use them or the harder you hit bumps the stiffer the spring gets as i compresses further... basically it prevents you from bottoming out like you could with a normal coil... think of it like a sled pull, the further you go the harder it gets -but its not a sudden stop.

the struts that come with the TRD package are nicer than most, being that they are a bilstein, but they are nothing special... my advice is do what i did, just buy the coils and buy some bilstien 5100s for a tundra and use that setup. the 5100s are ajustable, they have 5 settings, im running my brand new coils on 5100s at the 3rd(middle) setting and its netting me about 2.85" of lift, and a super nice(factory) ride, i couldnt be happier

you do not need the 5100s, although yes they are better and more desirable, the standard bilstien strut that they come with will work just fine
 
and I can sell you the standard bilstein shocks that come on the TRD Tundra package :) Only about 3k miles on em.
But yes, 5100s are more desirable and thats what I have.

Thanks, the kid, thats awesome info. So where would a guy buy just the springs? I know where to get the bilstens but again no source on the springs...

You can buy them from a Toyota dealer. There are a couple that sell items for a little cheaper than others. Read this thread, there are some examples.

1stpartstoyota has them for 118$ each + shipping. Shipping is normally 10% of cost, and in my case they were, but I ordered over $500 of stuff.
