Hey Guys so lately i have noticed a decline in my mpg in a big number.
i used to get about 250mile out of about 3/4 of a tank of gas in the 4runner but. recently i have droped a wopping 100 miles on the tank netting me only about 150 miles per 3/4 tank. i have not changed anything on the 4runner since the mileage decrease. this is a list of mods i have on the 4ruuner which have not changed and a list of mantinance items i have done since i noticed the milage drop. 243k miles on motor.

mods
TRD Supercharger
Doug thorley headers
afe intake
mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust system
urd 7th injector kit w/ 170 thermostat did not swap out to the walbro supplied pump as i am not runnig a smaller pulley for more boost.
urd lightweight crankshaft pulley using the kit as is out of the box from URD.

maintence since mileage loss
fuel filter
cleaned air filter
new plugs went from ik22 to ngk BCPR7ET's ( could this be what is affecting my mileage? these were used on 4wheeler.coms article)
MaF Cleaned out.
i hate loosing sleep over this as i drive this vehicle 60+ miles a day and 7 days a week. i just want my MPG back.

i had a 2nd gen trd charger, stock pully no 7th injector or anything.
i supercharged at the same time as the ss1.2 lift, and netted a total loss of about 2mpg avg. when regularly driving up a long road to a job that maintained a fairly consistant 45-65mph, i would actually get about 21mpg

i also had a deck plate and isr, but some would still argue that those shouldnt matter...

anyway to me it seems youre losing your gas mileage more than you should

Hi,

I don't know which plugs are ideal for SC'd rigs (I'm not SC'd and run the normal NGK ones), but there is a Supercharger thread in the 3rd gen section that has what people are using.

According to Amazon, the NGK plugs you mention "dont fit your vehicle" for my 3rd gen.

Ive only gotten about 200 miles per 14/g each fill up in the city on an N/A motor since owning mine.

Have you dont air filter, oil change, plugs, wires, tire pressure, alignment lately?

Yes Jay all done this month early dec. except plug wires were replaced this year when i popped the blower in. im totaly stumped. i going mad as to even blame the rola rack that i used to replace my yakima with.

Wish I could help, but all I can say is DAMN that's clean [emoji173][emoji91]
That's crazy your mileage has dropped that much. Really interested to hear what you find out it is.
Do you have a scan gauge? I don't know what all it tells you, but I would be curious to know your A/F. I don't see how your fueling could be whack, but 100mi/tank is a huge drop...

Tony- In the winter my mileage always drops drastically as I run the defrost (engaging the AC) nearly constantly and fuel up with the "winter gas" that some people claim to be non-existent.

As an example, I took a trip from my parent's house back home to Seattle this morning. In the summer I can pull 19mpg on that trip with my roof top tent on. Today, with no roof top tent, I got 16mpg.

I know it's still warm down in LA, but I doubt you guys get different gas than the rest of the country during the winter.

If you're worried about it, swap the old plugs back in for a couple tanks of fuel. See if it comes back.

Yeah that's pretty horrid mileage. Did the mileage go way down when you switched from the IK22s? I'd try switching back really quick to see what happens. I got about the same MPGs as Alex with my SC'd rig. And it's true that winter formula gas will make you lose some mileage as well.

i tossed the old ik22's out becuase the driverside plugs were horrible looking with less than 25k on it. is that normal? i swappedto the NGK BCPR7ET's since 4wheeler guys put it in there article as what they used i was sure it should be okay. 3 resistor prongs should be better right? if not then ill swap in the set of new ik22's i got with my urd kit.

i am really not sure but i just noticed it recently and that was one of the few things swapped recently.as well as fuel filter and thermostat.

Sorry didn't read much of the thread. Do you fell like you lost any power? do your tires spin freely if you get them off the ground?

I noticed a drastic drop in MPG on my S/C'd 4Runner a few months ago. I changed the spark plugs which were past due, the belts, and plug wires. Overall my mileage came back up to where it was before.

One question for your rig - has there been a jump in average transmission operating temps?

Same here.

I have duratrac tires, full armor + skid plates + winch.. super heavy rig.

no temps have been same no drastic changes. I just did a recent oil change, trans fluid drain and fill and coolant drain and fill because of the new thermostat. As well as the list of things above in first post.

Same here.

Same boat full RCI skids, plate bumper and e load ko2s

I don't know a ton about spark plugs, but from what I understand a 3 prong plug will last longer, but doesn't necessarily make them better.

Brother if the mileage dip is because of the NGKs I'll gladly ditch them and go back to ik22's and just change them out religiously at 20k miles the cost on both the ik22's and Ngk bcpr7et's don't justify one over the other for me I only tried the ngks since they were used by 4wheeler and they were said to also be 2 steps colder and less ping from them. But I am not gonna use a plug that is going to axe my mpgs like that.

3 prong I think would be better than a single ground plug. There's a sticker on the engine that says not to use single ground plugs, having the iridiums totally burnt up at 25k is normal for someone who gets on it a lot with a supercharger because of that. There are some dual ground platinum plugs out there that are 1-2 steps colder, but they are not tested so you might have poor results again.

Why do you think that?

I was under the impression that this was only for longevity. Some sort of system on the 5vz fires twice as many times, or something, and thus the dual ground plugs makes them last as long as single ground plug would on an ignition system that doesn't have the before mentioned system.

I don't know enough about it to argue, or really even discuss, but for PERFORMANCE, I don't think the number of ground electrodes should matter.

Food for thought guys the ik22's are an iridium plug vs the ngk bcpr7et's are copper plugs. Would this be the issue that is creating my nightmare?

Believe it or not rack may have to do with the mpg but I don't see it that significant. I completely removed my rack and tire and literally got 3-4 mpg on my v8 4x4.

Yes but that is applied to a n/a 5vz-fe, we are dealing with a forced induction setup 5vz-fe there is a difference and the n/a motor logic does not apply here.
