TRD vs. non-TRD

Hey Guys,

I know you all have been so helpful in the past with my 4runner, but my father is now looking to purchase a Tacoma. Obviously this is a 4runner forum, but I was hoping you all could shed some light on Tacomas that are SR5, and Tacomas that are SR5 with TRD stickers on the bed.

specifically, this one:
2008 TOYOTA TACOMA PU serving Tewksbury North Andover Lowell Nashua New Hampshire

My guess is that there are TRD parts in the engine, is that true or no?

TRD in Tacoma's means any combonation of these optional items: Locking rear diff, "off road" suspension, and maybe beefed up skid plates? Not sure about the skid plates. As for the engine, nothing that I'm aware of will be different. Good luck! Tacoma's are great trucks!

In terms of the Taco TRD and non-TRD will most often refer to suspension and in some cases a 5 lug and 6 lug rim. With the TRD you'll get bilstein shocks sometimes a hood scoop, painted bumpers, etc. That truck is not a TRD, it just has the decal. If anything it might have a engine oil cooler IF it had the towing package and its a nice piece.

You should see Bilstein struts on the suspension, skid plates, a locker for the rear axle, etc. The sport (which it is not) has the hood scoop and color-keyed bumpers.

I don't beleive they offer a single-cab TRD at all. Not sure if they made one with the plastic fenders at all either. Never seen it before. It does seem to have the 16" TRD wheels. I can't see the locker switch on the left of the steering wheel.

Um, I may be wrong here, but I have NEVER seen a TRD equiped Tacoma with manual windows and rubber fenders. That's a strip model truck with some stickers.

I'd look for a true TRD version for at least the rear locker.
 
Actually my wife has a 2007 Tacoma TRD Off-Road... they are pretty sweet! Some things to consider:
3 levels: normal, TRD Sport, TRD Offroad
the TRD sport has a hood scoop similar to the $Runner sport edition.

Do some research about what you want and which package you need. The off road package is the only one i would pitch the cash for. Hope that helps!
 
Trucks with the TRD packages (either Sport or Off-Road) also include the SR5 package features, so FourEyedWilly is correct in that a TRD package truck will not have manual windows.

That truck listed by the OP is not a true TRD Off-Road. The wheels are TRD Off-Road, but that's about it. Both front and rear bumpers should be chrome, the seat fabric is not TRD, the fender flares should be body color, there should be fog lights, and there should be a heck of a lot more switches next to the steering wheel instead of blank switchplates.
