Treadwright tires update

well here is my input after looking around for any cases of tread separation with these tires. Not a single one ive found yet was actual TREAD separation. When these fail, its belt separation. no surprise with an old or damaged casing.

Not the first time I posted that DOT summary. You've read it no doubt as a TW thread troll! =}

I had TW, they road like ****, so I got rid of them. I think the company is also a bunch of clowns. others may have different experiences.

The traction and balancing was just fine. Duratracs ride a lot better.

haha, tell us how you really feel!
i guess in future i'll just buck up and spend the extra $300 bucks for all new tires!

They looked pretty good to me, but I am not that picky. Hell you should see some of the recap tractor trailer tires! I've had a whole cap peel off and hit the front of a Cadillac STS on the highway!
I have had nothing but great experiences with Discount Tire Direct. Maybe you should give them a try.

You can keep your slanted article. Ill keep the actual threads I have seen from actual users of the tires that experience problems.

by that thinking, I should sell my 4runner, there are MANY threads about people having problems with them, I should sell my computer, many people have problems with sony, dell, HP etc etc etc :sobbing:

bottom line is, anything that is mass produced, from time to time, people will have problems.
Hell, just look at shrockworks, how many on here, (not to mention all the others forums) have had problems with them ? yet some have had ZERO issues.

:wow: i hope you dont go out in public with that kind of logic.. thats scary.

here's the real bottum line..its a known sub-par tire and yet people still run them on the same streets I drive on. that too is scary.

im unsubbing. ive done what I can here. its up to subject B to use his common sense.

why dont all the treadright lovers just get a set for wheeling, and have another set for the road. to me, this makes the most sense.

Because that would cost 1.7X more than just getting a good set of tires in the 1st place, and would require a 2nd set of wheels. I agree though, the only circumstances I would run a set of retreads is if they were dedicated off-road tires, so it wouldn't matter if they got chewed up on rocks, or if I had to plug them, if they were properly balanced, etc.

When it comes to the safety of me and my family, my dog, my truck, etc, I wouldn't consider retreads. Say what you want to justify it to yourself, but you have a used sidewall that you have no history on, that may or may not match that of your other used sidewalls, and you're asking them to handle 70mph+ on the highway, the risk just isn't worth the savings to me.

SHOW ME ONE MOTHERFUC*ING ARTICLE WITH TREAD SEPARATION ... What I thought.

Agreed, I was looking at Treadwrights and spent weeks googling and reading and searching forums to find some horror story. If they are so dangerous as some individuals would have us believe, I would think there would be at least a few stories out there of catastrophic failure. In the end, I just decided I couldn't live with the downsides (very few from what I have seen) and kept the tires I have until they are worn out and I can upgrade.

Precisely. This is because there are none out there. Do you think a minuscule company such as Treadwright Tires would survive one incident of sidewall blowout? We all remember what happened to the tire juggernaut Firestone a few years back. It would destroy Treadwright. I know this, they know this, and everyone in this thread knows this.

The manufacturing process for both new tires and Treadwrights are nearly identical. The Treadwrights do undergo a very thorough inspection because, it's true ... they are used carcasses. Both methods utilize the vulcanizing process to adhere the tread to the carcass. Gone are the days of simply gluing the tread to a rotted junkyard carcass.

My testimonial: I bought Treadwright's about 16k miles ago. From day one they were balanced perfectly. They rode smooth, and tracked straight. They've been in rock gardens, high speed desert runs, sand, mud, rain, 5hr+ highway runs @ 85mph, high speed canyon sessions, burnouts, and much more. They don't leak air, they have minimal sidewall cracking (my own fault for using tire dressing), and wear completely evenly.

I'll probably get another 20k out of them. When they do finally go completely bald, I'll be absolutely ordering another set. At $700 delivered, another $600 savings over name brand. That's $1,200 savings for just tires. That'll buy me an air locker, or a trip to South America and back by plane or truck.

I'm no financial wizard, but $1,200 savings for a product with an IMMACULATE safety record is a huge no brainer.

Here is a pretty well-known story about a treadwright blowout: Our New Land Cruiser Saved Our Lives

Page 1 has the photos of the tire separation and page 6 has a description of the tires, mileage and pressure. Not trying to sway you one way or another but the stories are out there.

i read that befor i got my tw, in that case its debatable what actually happened. looks to me like the threds blew out and had nothing to do with what tread was on the tire. BUT was mostlikely caused because the tires old (used) and could have happened to any old tire.

TW are good for certain purposes.

like i said if you compare them to the cheaper 15in wheel 35s you dont save much at all

im going to be buying 35x12.5x15 mtr tires soon about $900 to my door vs TW $770 at my door = ~$150 no one can possible say thats worth it :roadkill:

oh ya and if your tire does blow out dont stomp on your brakes. i also thing the driver played a factor on that LC
