TREVLOC's Thread

so in order to reach the bolts to remove it, you do have to cut the weather thing a ma bob.

It's a little late for you now.. but, for future reference & for others, you can pull that whole clear plastic cover off and the black stuff will stick back well.

I have removed mine and put it back several times.

edit: sorry skylinegtracer beat me to posting

sorry these next 2 are blurry, but you can still see what im going

after you remove the screws on the button to open the hatch there are these two clip things that keep it in, you have to pinch them in order to remove the button.

then unclip it from the harness and set it aside, also unwrap the wires and leave it there. then you can remove it! there is one clip in the middle top of the piece.

You don't have to cut that yellow weather thing. All you have to do is pull it off and stick it back on. I've done that at least 5 times with my truck.

i thought about that but i wasnt sure. good to know. i might get a new one but i dont think ill have any reason to take that all apart again. haha

hatch final part

so i pryed off the chrome logo.

3 coats of paint later

so after i reinstalled it, by doing these steps in reverse, i closed it and made sure the button and lights worked before i used the duck tape. i am a big fan of the duck.

Since your going with a silver and black theme might I suggest a "evo" mod to your front bumper. This is what it looks like.

wooo!

by the way, i tried using silicone caps to change my dash.... yeah. not worth the hassle. they dont work at all. look turquoise... and dont light up well at all. looks like LED bulbs will be on order....

blacked out my door handles.

this was "easy" kinda sorta. but it was just time comsuming. im probably going to take them off and sand them down and repaint them cause i dont think this coat will last long. just cause i rushed it which was dumb, but i was just excited.

also, i got my new nitto terra grapplers today. 265/70/r17
and it was about 770 for 4. and i am loving them so far.

Looks good so far! Keep it up. I like the chrome parts converted to black, not much of a chrome fan myself.

I'm gonna have to try that Mequiar's scratch remover after seeing your thread. I have similar scratches on the hood as well as those ultra annoying scratches behind the driver's door handle. Guessing they're from the finger nails of whatever soccer mom owned this before me :/

Good job on your mods!
I have a question regarding your radio..
I recently installed the same head unit, but we couldn't figure out a way to get the mode button on the steering wheel to work. Does yours work?

As for what's next I'm not sure yet. I am currently in cali but I come home Tuesday. And I have all week off work. So I'm thinkin headlights and wheels. Possibly gonna dye the carpet and paint all the interior panels. Depends on time and money.

As for the steering controls I can't help you on that cause I don't have em. I use the remote that came with the stereo. Sorry :(

painted/dyed my mats

so i painted my mats today. and i have to say they came out way better than i was thinking they would. the key is light coats, with drying in between. which they dry really fast.

i used dupli-colors vinyl and fabric spray flat black. its like $6.50 a can at o'riellys. and i used about 2 1/2 cans for all 5 mats.

the first pics are of the cleaning. i purchased a turtlewax auto vaccum ($32 at walmart) and some carpet foam cleaner. i figured for as much as i go to the car wash to use their vaccums it would be cheaper to just get one myself. its handy and has alot of power beind it.

and the reason the after cleaning is a little darker than usual is cause its still wet. i let them dry over night, and they looked brand new. almost didnt paint them cause of it haha.

and the last pic looks gray, but its just the lighting of the camera. just to show how it still is carpet like, not brittle or stiff or anything.
