haha that is only where it is when i am in the drivers seat. it is on my hip otherwise. and when i am in places i cant carry, it goes locked in the glovebox.
im gonna get a safe bolted to my floor probably in the trunk here soon.

as i stated in the last thread i got ancy and realized how easy it was to remove my grill, so i decided, since i have the paint. why not paint it!
tools:
10MM socket wrench
and i used the krylon fusion in the first post
the first thing i did was remove the hatch screws (2, black)
then i just let it hang out of the way
then i removed the other bolts (screws stay attached to grill) these bolts are the silver round tipped ones
i was also super glad to realize the chrome totoya logo was held on with clips. i was under the impression i was going to have to tape it off. instead i just took it off. very handy.
after a good cleaning i applied my first coat.
three coats later and emblem replaced BAM!
put back together
Man, I was sitting in Jack in the Box looking at my T4R today thinking of how it would look with the front grill painted like this. Now I know and now I have another mod to do.

Thanks for all the write ups on painting you trim pieces. My '03 came with the silver trim package and i have decided i want a change. I have a black rack on the way, but after reading your write ups, i have decided to paint instead of buying the grill, handles and rear handle cover. Here is what it looks like now and what it will look like.

hell yeah man! its sweet. as for the grill, i have taken it off and painted it a few times (rock chips, bugs) and since ive had to do that, i recommend the plastidip. its thicker and doesnt chip as easily. but as for the tail, you can use the paint... unless you plan on driving backwards on the freeway...

I spent an hour taping and painted it still attached. Use a piece of cardboard when spraying to block areas you dont want painted.
You know they say "measure twice, cut once", I say "tape twice, paint once". It's all in the details...

I did the grille in my wife's maxima. It carried every speck of dirt & water spot. I resprayed the grille and used some Rustoleum clear matte finish over it. Problem solved.
BTW, I'd paint the bolts on your holster black to match, but that's just me.

Trevloc, first off this is a great build. Secondly, how are your door handles holding up? I want to paint my grille, door handles, and rear lift gate cover. I am wanting to know what you used / would recommend for painting these parts. Also how are they holding up? What should I expect? Thank you very much!

theyre holding up well. just sand em and paint em. i used krylon fusion, but i recommend plastidip in case you dont like it, and itll hold up just as well. my main advice is to take your time. especially with the rear doors. it can get time consuming but when you rush is when you break pieces... dont ask how i know haha. :naughty:

Man, you have inspired me to get out and do some work on my 4Runner! Does the plasti dip work okay in cooler weather?

sorry for the late response. i have done plastidip in a cold wet climate and it works fine. however, i live in az, so cold to me was like 50 degrees...
