Trimming?

Hey Guys.

Just looking for some tips on trimming the plastic under the bumper to make a little more clearance for my tires. I have a 2007 SR5 with Icon stage 2 and 275/70/17 tires on. 1.25" spidertrax spacers too. There is some rubbing when I'm in revers going downhill and also when I'm hitting ruts straight on with the wheel turned at all. Looking for tips on the trimming process...tools you guys use, etc. I have a heat gun, so if heating the plastic is effecting that is an option.

you can just take the bolts out of the fender liner and move it up then put new holes in it and put the bolts back in. it might help to trim some of the edge of the liner to make it fit in the mounts better. are you touching the bumper at all?

When I have the tire turned at a near full lock out and am taking a corner it rubs agains the plastic inside bottom portion of the bumper. Not the outer body portion of the bumper though. When I'm in more rugged terrain off road it rubs quite a bit on that same spot.

The very bottom part of the bumper that comes down closest to the front of the tire on this picture is what I am talking about. Its a solid piece of molded plastic. Is that the piece you are referring to moving up? Thanks!

You could try wheelspacers, but from the angle of the picture, it doesn't look like they would help any. Not the prettiest, but your best bet would be to just trim it with a sawzall.

Thanks man! I do have spidertrax 1.25" wheel spacers on. Which I think actually made the rubbing worse. I am going to give a shot at moving the front fenders forward as suggested above and see how that goes. I already did quite a bit of trimming on the mud flaps. I'll post up here on the results. Thanks again everyone!

I'd also recommend a dremel with a wheel bit on there. Pretty easy to make it clean and cut right through it. Took me 20 mins to trim that corner on the bottom of the bumper on both sides.

Followed the advice of pulling the fenders forward and it worked perfect. Plenty of clearance now. Thanks again!

If I get any rubbing on the bumper I'll definitely take the sawzall to it!
