to answer your question, I usually have about 33psi in my tires. I let them down to about 20 psi, and had no problem in the deep sand. I could have gone lower to about 15. I read somewhere that you are supposed to go down around 8, but I didn't feel that it was necessary. If I had gotten stuck (yeah right) I would have let more out. Just make sure to know where the closest air is for when you are done on the beach. you don't want to be driving on the road too long without air!

I remember back when I was 16. My twin brother and I taught my mom how to do donuts in the snow in a 1st gen explorer and ever since she always has her eye out for a good place to do them.

No beaches here , would love to kick back with the hatch open in a lounge chair by the ocean, fishin pole , couple of babe's , and my wife smackin my in the back of the head for staring at them....lol

I wouldn't go below 15 psi to air down unless you have tires with a very stiff sidewall... If you air down too much, you run the risk of breaking the bead seal and then you have to have the tire remounted.
I've been in nice soft beach sand, and very fine desert blow sand, and never had any problems with 15 psi tires (down from 33-35 psi). Make sure you don't run far on the pavement (or at all) after you air down (i.e. bring an air compressor) or you will trash your tires.
Basic beach equipment:
- small piece (2'x1') plywood (or a piece of 2' 1x6 decking)
- air compressor
- shovel
- cell phone/cb
- tow rope
- fishing pole (mandatory)
- cooler (fully stocked)
- sunscreen

Don't you have to go to federal court in elizabeth city, cause its a federal ticket?? Got caught running my two border collies last winter, was the only truck on the north beach and giving the boys a workout and nps ranger walks over a dune and writes me. Oh, well it is well posted dogs only on a leash while on the beach.

I thought at any minute he was going to pull his gun. He got real threatening when I told him to calm down and stop the preaching. I don't need some asshole threatening to put me in jail for doing a donut. It got to the point where I told him to just write the ticket so he could get his money!

forget the air compressor. right across from oregon inlet is a marina. there they have two free (make a donation) air compressors that are available to the public. these things are awesome - they can inflate a tire from 15 psi to 35 psi in 20 seconds. be careful not to over-inflate!
