Troubleshoot? New JBLs sound terrible with T1807 HU

I have a 2000 SR5 with the Scion T1807 HU mod in it. I just replaced one of the 6.5" front door speakers with a JBL GTO627 and it sounds worse than the factory speaker. I want my 4runner to be more dynamic on the lows (give a deeper sound), and thought the JBLs would do that, but they aren't even close to the stock speakers. What am I missing here? There is no way these speakers are supposed to sound this bad, so I must have messed something up. Ideas?

It's hard to tell with just one speaker in. If you have the volume low and just listen to it with your ear by the speaker it will sound weak. If you install the rest, or even just another front speaker and turn the volume up a little, it should be fine. Also, aftermarket speakers don't have much bass to them. Whenever going aftermarket, the key is to turn it into a system. Replacing the speakers will just improve Sound Quality. When I unplug my subs my Alpine Type S's sound very weak. Very good sound quality, but they lack loudness and punch.

- Put the other speaker in the front
-Turn the volume up to make sure they are getting the power and putting out
- Add a cheap amp and sub if you have the money. My subs run $150 and take the cars sound to a whole new level. Even if you don't plan on waking up everyone in the neighborhood, a reasonably priced sub will please you.
