Just bought a True Flow "XDI" (cold air intake) kit 4.0L V6


Bought the kit from Jason (Burtmanindustries.com) gave me a great price on the kit.

First impression, very well made product, the canister and link pipes are powder coated metal (not plastic) the kit comes with all hardware needed. (also stock engine cover fits- over the kit) NO EXTRA PARTS NEEDED...


The kit was easy to install, it took me around an hour (just took my time) wanted to make sure everything lined up correctly.
the instructions, are pretty much straight forward....



I briefly test rode, the 4Runner after the install, and I really liked the fit and end results.

this kit is not very loud, but offers a nice growl, and is pretty much quiet while just cruising around town.

but it will have a nice growl, when you stand on the pedal.


I'll post a update , when I get some more seat time in.

Where is the cooler air coming in? Does it utilize the hole in the side fender?

air comes in through the rear (canister has opening in rear)

how can it suck a supposedly "cooler" air if its air intake is still inside the engine bay? as opposed to Volant and TRD.

all of the intakes i have seen thus far for our respective engines are not really "Cold Air" intakes but more of high flow intakes that make up for running warmer underhood air with larger flow rates. The Volant sucks air directly from under the hood.

I'm not a huge fan of where that intake is pulling air from, just in front of the firewall? When the fan is blowing all of the hot air across the block bounces off the firewall and straight up toward the cowl where that intake looks to be pulling air. It just doesn't look like a good design. Also, the metal piping conducts more heat to the flowing air than does plastic, the difference isn't much, but plastic is a better insulator.

What makes this intake different than most? It's designed with "Inverted Air Flow", which reverses the direction of air flow through the filter and canister offering a lower rate for restriction. So low in fact, it's less restrictive then no canister or air box at all. Because of this design, True Flow is able to locate the canister in just about any location and direction.

Just my personal opinion, but that thing is ugly as hell. If it were black with black hose couplings maybe. It looks like it belongs in a commercial air condition unit, rather than in a truck engine bay.

it uses "inverted air flow", a marketing tool to make it different from the rest.

well after installing the True Flow "XDI" CAI kit.


after a few hundred miles, i happy to say i'm pleased with the kit..



I've seen a small improvement in "MPG" according to my trip meter (TRIP A or B) around 2 mpg

does this mean that the EPA that Toyota provided is misleading? I thought the EPA is a basis on how many mileage we get out of a gallon, which is 17/21 for V6 4x4.
i dont trust the on board computer at all.

I know Heckler05 was getting around 21 mpg BEFORE he installed this intake. This is giving quite a nice boost.

It's not very accurate at all.
