Trumpeting noise from high winds hitting door weatherstripping?

I’ve noticed that when driving highway speeds on a windy day, particularly if driving into the wind, I get an occasional trumpet noise from wind making it past the weather stripping at the top of the drivers door. It sounds kind of like pinching the end of a balloon and letting the air out. It’s annoying to me but downright infuriating to my wife, which means I get to hear about it every time it happens. Therefore, it’s also infuriating to me.

If I grab the inside of the door frame right around the oh shit handle and pull as hard as I can, the noise typically goes away or is at least reduced, so I’m fairly certain the weatherstripping is the issue.

Im going to look into new weatherstripping but has anyone else had this and been able to fix it?

A few drops of weather strip adhesive is much cheaper and easier, or would at least help deduce the issue. Should be able to find it at autozone or the like no problem

Hm, I have something similar going on with my truck, but I haven’t pinpointed exactly where it’s coming from.

The noise is honestly kind of welcomed after finally getting rid of my differential howl after replacing my 3rd member last weekend. I hadn’t heard it in quite a while due to the constant HHHHOOOOOOOOOMMMMM from the rear end.

I might let those little triumphant trumpets blast for a while.

Try bending the top of the door closer to the body about 1/4”. Open the door, put your knee against the top of the door trim panel and pull the top of the door towards you. Test fitment and tweak as necessary.

I have the same issue. I assumed it was something with the windshield but it persists after I had it replaced due to a crack. Typically happens going 60-65 and getting hit with 25-35 mph winds

Maybe I’m thinking about it the wrong way but should we be concerned about water entering the cab? Even something like a slight drip that would happen behind the dash? Since I’ve never been able to exactly pinpoint the location I’m not really sure if the noise is happening inside the cab or if it’s just THAT loud outside

I'm pretty sure someone else has also mentioned this in the past few months. I have the same thing happening to me as well. I've never paid much attention to it as it doesn't really bother me much. Nor does it seem to be an actual problem or anything.

Im going to look into new weatherstripping but has anyone else had this and been able to fix it?

Had same problem with 96Red tried cheap fixes little benefit, got 01 spent the $500 for 5 door seals gtg for 200k mi.

I just replaced the weather stripping on my doors. Took me about one hour. Worked great and no issues so far. A lot cheaper than the dealership. For the joint/ends, I cut off some of the "gripping" and tucked the foam into the other end.

I used the following item that I got off Amazon

Unless it's the 4-Horsemen of the Apocalypse and the 7th Seal being opened I'd agree with most everyone that your weather stripping/seal has outlived it's usefulness (dry rot) and needs replaced.

It is possible that due to age and use that the door is sprung and needs realignment. I've had that issue with other vehicles... Rain and Wind making it's way in while driving is quite annoying.

Wow this stuff works great. The metal U clips are perforated every 1/8” or so there’s no need to saw through it. I used superglue to make the joint where the two ends met so it’s continuous, but this was maybe 45 mins per door start to finish, and totally solved the issue. There’s a small but noticeable reduction in wind noise at highway speeds too. I need to order more and do the passenger side soon.
