Trying to decide

I've really wanted a '90-'95 4Runner my whole life but after reading the forums about everything Im more inclined to get something like a '98.

As far as reliability goes, this choice is pretty easy to make?

Also, I noticed that even if a '98 4Runner doesnt have racks, there are still those black plastic strips that go down the top. Does that mean that the racks come on and off and if I did find a 4Runner with racks (which I dont prefer) I could take them off and just be down to those two plastic strips?

I ask because I know in the '90-'95's you couldnt take the racks off.

I think the 98 is a great choice(thats what I have) But kidding aside I havent had ANY issue's w/ mine other than routine service and regular wear/tear. SOLID TRUCK since day one and told myself need to keep until 2010.
As far as the roof rack you can take them off, I think even the Runna's that dont come w/ racks have the holes pre-drilled.

Good luck with which ever truck you run with!!

My first car was a Camry, then Civic, then Acura TL. By far my 98 runner was the most reliable and my favorite car. Definetly go with the 3rd gen...Good Luck!!!

Yeah, I owned a '95 3.slow for a few years and enjoyed it. However, when I finally sold it and got a 3rd gen, I vowed never to go back to the 2nd gen. The power alone was a huge increase not to mention everything else that was improved upon.

Don't get me wrong, the '96-'98 model 4Rs are great, but if you want a little more creature comforts, the '99 and up 4Rs offer these.

If you enjoy 4-wheeling, Toyota offered 4WD '99 models w/ an 1" higher ground clearance compared to other 3rd gens and some even came w/ a factory rear electric locker.

just my .02

Although, any 3rd Gen year you choose will be great!
